National Police officers have arrested a British citizen in Maspalomas who was subject to an International Arrest Warrant issued by the UK judicial authorities due to his alleged involvement in eight sexual offenses against minors committed in that country.
According to the police investigation, the detainee had previously been arrested in the United Kingdom for these offenses and released on bail. However, he fled the country and failed to appear before the judicial authorities when summoned, which led to the issuance of a new International Arrest Warrant as his whereabouts were unknown.
The investigation began after it was learned that the wanted man might be residing in the Gran Canaria municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana . Agents from the Homicide Unit of the Specialized and Violent Crime Unit ( UDEV ), belonging to the Local Judicial Police Brigade of the Maspalomas Police Station, confirmed the validity of the international arrest warrant through the central services of the National Police and organized a discreet police operation to locate him.
As a result, officers located the suspect near a vacation rental property within the municipality, where he was arrested without incident. He was then taken to the police station for processing.
The detainee was placed at the disposal of the competent judicial authority, who ordered his provisional imprisonment while the formal procedure for his extradition requested by the British authorities is processed.
