Although the tour operator ranks the Maspalomas Dunes and its adjacent coastal strip among the most attractive locations in Europe for naturism and nude walking, the nature reserve currently faces strict access restrictions to curb its environmental degradation.
In recent times, both the Civil Guard, through its Nature Protection Service (SEPRONA), and the Environmental Agents of the Gran Canaria Island Council have significantly intensified surveillance within the Special Nature Reserve. Official figures reflect the magnitude of the challenge: every day, between 150 and 300 people improperly access the protected areas, straying beyond the authorized trails.
This influx of visitors spikes especially at sunset, when up to 500 people gather to watch the sunset or capture panoramic photos, generating a direct and cumulative impact on the endemic flora and fauna of the dune ecosystem. While the TUI guide encourages travelers to connect with nature under the FKK (Free Body Culture) philosophy in this emblematic Gran Canaria landscape, local authorities remind visitors that access to the area is strictly limited to protect a fragile habitat threatened by overcrowding.
For naturism enthusiasts seeking fully compliant alternatives, the international and regional offerings include established options such as the vast, secluded coastlines of Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, the marked trails in the German forests of the Harz and Undeloh, or enclaves on the French Riviera such as Île du Levant, highlighting the ongoing challenge of balancing the promotion of open spaces with the strict preservation of the environment.
For TUI the concept is simple: "Just like in nudism, it's about going without clothes and embarking on a little adventure by breaking this taboo." "Whether you find it more or less bothersome, the truth is that you can use your senses more when you go hiking naked," the tour operator points out.
