The Gran Canaria Bike Team has achieved a historic weekend on the peninsular and international calendar.

 

The Gran Canaria Bike Team (GCBT) has completed one of the most brilliant performances of its sporting career after certifying a memorable weekend on the peninsular roads, confirming the solidity, talent and projection of the Gran Canaria cycling academy in both the cadet and junior categories.

 

Uncontested dominance of the cadet squad in Navarre

In the 57th edition of the LVII San Esteban de Murieta Prize (Navarra), on a very tough track and against the best teams from the northern peninsula, the GCBT cadet team put on a memorable display by winning 3 of the 4 titles up for grabs.

 

Néstor Herrera (Teror) achieved the overall individual victory, crossing the finish line first with a time of 1h 29m 29s, hand in hand with his teammate Pablo Álvarez (Agüimes), who finished second with the same time after a brilliant team strategy. Pablo Álvarez completed his great day by being crowned King of the Mountains, followed by Néstor Herrera in third place in that classification.

 

 

The club's triumph was further cemented in the overall team classification, where GCBT was crowned champion thanks to their collective strength and the crucial roles played by Eric Yone Jiménez (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria), who finished 5th, and Asier Álvarez (Telde), who finished 43rd. Álvaro Gómez (Agüimes) and Óscar Daniel Darias (Las Palmas de GC) were also instrumental in securing the team victory. This golden triple—individual classification, mountain classification, and team classification—confirms the excellent technical development of the island's youth program.

 

 

Junior international solidity and learning in the Vuelta a la Ribera del Duero

Meanwhile, the junior section of the Gran Canaria Bike Team took a significant leap forward by competing in its first event on the official Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) calendar at the 10th Junior Cycling Tour of the Ribera del Duero (Burgos). The race brought together 160 riders and 27 teams, including strong international squads such as Cref Vendée Cyclisme (France), ACROG-Tormans (Belgium), Gepla-Watersley R+D Cycling Team (Netherlands), Ignite Junior Cycling (Canada), and Prologue Junior Racing Team (United Kingdom).

 

In this highly demanding environment, David Bolaños (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria) led the island team's performance with exemplary progress throughout the four stages. After starting 97th in the opening time trial and 98th on the second day, Bolaños climbed to 62nd position on the third stage and finished 57th on the final day. His tenacity allowed him to finish 64th overall with a cumulative time of 7 hours, 19 minutes, and 22 seconds, marking a valuable debut that reinforces the development work carried out by the club.
