The measure comes into effect this Saturday, September 5, at 10:00 a.m., and affects areas located above 600 meters in altitude in the north of the island and above 400 meters in the south.
Restrictions remain in place on the use of fire, access to and transit through forest land, burning, fireworks, and other activities that may cause fires.
The Gran Canaria Island Council has declared a state of alert for forest fire risk on the island, through the INFOGRAN Plan, which will come into effect on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. This decision is based on the weather forecast provided by AEMET (the Spanish State Meteorological Agency), as well as the updated alert level issued by the Government of the Canary Islands and the current state of the island. The alert particularly affects areas located above 600 meters on the northern slopes and 400 meters on the southern slopes of Gran Canaria, where the danger is greater due to the weather conditions.
During this period, a series of strict restrictions are in place to prevent forest fires . Lighting fires in any open space, including recreational areas, campsites, and shelters, is prohibited, whether they are established or portable. Likewise, vehicular access on the GC-216 road is not permitted except for residents and public services, nor is the use of areas such as the Llanos de la Mimbre Campsite or the Tamadaba Recreation Area. All authorizations for agricultural or forestry burning are suspended, and the use and introduction of pyrotechnic materials, as well as machinery that could generate sparks or explosions near the forest, is prohibited.
The Island Council reminds all citizens of the vital importance of taking extreme precautions and complying with all established measures to protect both the population and the island's natural heritage. Furthermore, access to mountains and forest land—including trails—is prohibited except in specific circumstances; discarding flammable objects and hunting are also prohibited during this alert. Strict adherence to these rules is essential to facilitate preventative efforts and ensure an effective response to potential forest fire emergencies in Gran Canaria.
