In Lomo Galeón and Los Caideros. It's definitely someone from Las Palmas. A company with no website and no history in the mining sector, based in the opaque commercial structure of Cyprus, is looking for pozzolana in 420 hectares of land—equivalent to exactly 4,2 million square meters. This land in Tirajana, equivalent to 420 football fields, is being excavated to determine if there's enough material to produce cement, in theory.
The Directorate General of Industry of the Government of the Canary Islands has published in the Official State Gazette (BOE) the final acceptance for processing of two applications for mining exploration permits submitted by Feronia Holdings Limited, with foreign tax identification number N0387373D. The applications focus on the search for pozzolans, a mineral resource under Section C of the Mining Law composed of volcanic materials widely used in the construction industry and in cement manufacturing.
The planned mining operations directly affect the Gran Canaria municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana through two separate permits. One is the "Lomo Galeón" permit, registered under number 35D000175 and covering an area of 8 mining grids, and the other is the "Los Caideros" permit, registered under number 35D000176 and encompassing 6 mining grids, both approved by resolutions dated July 27, 2026.
Following this official publication, a period of fifteen business days has been opened for those with a legitimate interest to access the files and examine the documentation. This consultation can be carried out in person at the offices of the Regional Government's Mining Service located in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria or through the Canary Islands Government's online portal.
