FIRE IN CAZADORES ON JULY 23, 2026

Update :

16:59 PM | The Cazadores fire was stabilized a few minutes ago after the work carried out by the extensive firefighting team. According to available information, there have been no reports of injuries or damage to animals, homes, or other significant property.

15:25 PM | Firefighters are focusing their efforts on the left flank of the blaze, whose spread is being influenced by southerly winds. As a precaution, several homes have been evacuated, along with elderly residents and animals. The municipalities of Telde, Vega de San Mateo, and Valsequillo in Gran Canaria are closely monitoring the fire's progress.

Five aircraft and fifty personnel from the Gran Canaria Island Council and the Emergency Consortium , along with various civil protection teams , local police and state security forces , among other resources, have been working since the confirmation of its declaration at 12:43 pm to fight the fire declared in the Cazadores area , in the municipality of Telde.

The president of the Gran Canaria Island Council, Antonio Morales , and the Environment Councillor, Raúl García Brink , have traveled to the headquarters of the Emergency Coordination Centre (CECOPIN) to learn firsthand about the evolution of the fire and to monitor the firefighting operation.

The fire has so far affected an area of approximately three hectares . The blaze, considered to have high potential , was initially driven by southerly winds, pushing its head downwards towards the coast. However, embers also reached the bottom of the ravine, creating secondary fires with the potential to spread towards the island's summit, especially if the forecast of a wind shift to the northeast holds true.

The Island Council has also closed roads 134 and 130 and is asking the public to stay informed through official sources, including the Island Government's public channels. As a preventative measure, three homes in the area have been evacuated, with no injuries reported. The populated areas of Cazadores and La Solana are being monitored as the fire continues to spread.
