Managing this waste has cost over €55.000 in public funds, and the City Council reminds residents that there are facilities available for free disposal.

The dumping of rubble and construction waste in streets, vacant lots, and around waste containers has forced the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council to deploy an extraordinary waste removal and management operation in recent weeks . In just 24 days, 147.260 kilos have been collected , an amount that demonstrates the impact that uncivil behavior has on the resources provided by the community as a whole.

The effort has been especially significant on certain days. Only the August 19th, XNUMX they retired 71.020 kilosThis represents almost half of the total volume collected during the analyzed period. To this amount were added 39.600 kilos on September 4th, 16.400 kilos on August 12th, 11.940 kilos on August 26th y 8.300 kilos on August 14thThe operations extended to numerous locations throughout the municipality, including San Fernando, Romeral Castle, juan big, English beach, Meloneras, The Board, boiler, Brackish, Sunland, Maspalomas and areas like Agadir.

The City Council warns that this situation not only damages the image and environment of the municipality, but also has a direct impact on public finances. The removal, transport, and treatment of this waste has resulted in an additional expenditure of €55.148,87 , covered by public funds.

The City Council insists that the cleanest person is not the one who cleans the most, but the one who makes the least mess , and reminds citizens that rubble cannot be deposited next to conventional containers or abandoned on public roads, paths, vacant lots or open fields.

Individuals can use the Maspalomas Recycling Center , located on the GC-504, Palmitos Park road, at kilometer 0,5, where they can dispose of waste from home renovations up to a maximum of 15 bags or 500 kilos of rubble. The information telephone numbers are 928 734 147 and 928 734 148.

The City Council also reminds residents that the abandonment or uncontrolled dumping of non-hazardous waste is classified as a serious offense under state law, with fines ranging from €2.001 to €100.000 . When such actions pose a serious risk to health, cause serious environmental damage, or occur in protected areas, they can be considered very serious offenses, with penalties ranging from €100.001 to €3.500.000.

The City Council also requests citizen collaboration to curb these behaviors and facilitate the identification of those responsible when a dumping occurs, providing, whenever possible and without confronting the offender, data such as location, photographs, time or vehicle registration.

Keeping San Bartolomé de Tirajana clean cannot depend solely on removing ever-increasing amounts of waste. The goal is to prevent that waste from being dumped in the first place, to use designated areas, and to recognize that the cost of irresponsible behavior ultimately affects all citizens.
