Mogán is working on the drafting of both projects, which already have a location and financing from European funds
The Mogán Tourism Sustainability Plan contemplates, among other actions, providing the municipality with two hostels for hikers and lovers of rural and active tourism. Municipal technicians are drafting the projects, which will be executed in Veneguera and Barranquillo Andrés, and will be complementary to other actions to improve and maintain the 'Tamaranae: Entre Riscos y Barrancos' macro route as well as landscape recovery and heritage milestones.
This line of action will be financed with a proportional part of the 7,41 million euros that the Government of Spain has granted to the City Council from the Next Generation EU recovery funds, an item with which fourteen other axes of the Recovery Plan will also be executed. Sustainability.
The mayor of Mogán, Onalia Bueno, states that the objective is to attract tourism to the midlands of the municipality and thereby contribute to boosting the local economy of those areas. However, those who choose to visit the interior are looking for a different or complementary offer to what already exists in the centers near the coast and, therefore, work must be done to direct the municipality to these new demands that involve a sustainable tourism model, with a diverse natural and cultural offer.
In the last year, the newly renovated 'Tamaranae: Entre Riscos y Barrancos' macro route has been a real boost for mountain lovers, who have been able to enjoy 30 kilometers of fully rehabilitated trails that connect all the Moganera midlands. The movement of hikers is continuous and what is intended with the installation of shelters is that they can find shelter and prolong their stay by getting to know the interior neighborhoods.
Thus, the Veneguera shelter will be located on the plot adjacent to the neighborhood's educational center and the Barranquillo Andrés shelter will be located in the building that previously housed the old school. The latter will have capacity for eight people and the Veneguera one will have a few more as it has an area of 150 square meters. However, the figures are not intended to be too high but they are sufficient to, as the mayor explains, "provide a starting point for people to go to the neighborhoods, stay and consume in them and that the demand for accommodation, which is already "We know it is high, it can encourage the residents of the area to see ecotourism as a business opportunity." She well compares the purpose of these projects with the synergy that is generated around the Camino de Santiago. “By promoting these towns, which were practically unpopulated, businesses have been generated and, very importantly, the local people, especially young people, have decided to rehabilitate houses and allocate their land to tourism, which is now their way of life,” Explain.
The first Moganera councilor sees in these shelters and in other actions that involve continuing to improve the macro route and implement more trails, an opportunity for “the population of the midlands to consolidate, so that the youth do not go to live in other parts of the municipality. or outside, and they can even have their own business in the neighborhood.”
Green path to connect the beach and the town of Mogán
Of the fifteen axes contemplated in the Mogán Tourism Sustainability Plan, the City Council is also fully immersed in the green path project for pedestrians, cyclists and other sustainable alternative vehicles, which will be around 7,5 kilometers and will link the beach and the historic center of the municipality. Last week, Mayor Bueno, the Councilor for Public Works, Ernesto Hernández, and municipal technicians traveled this distance through the Barranco de Mogán itself to specify the projection of the path and the techniques to be used.
“The green path corresponds to the 2023 annuity of the Next Generation funds, but it is true that it is a large-scale action that must be worked on now, especially due to the permits we need from other Public Administrations. Our goal is to have the project and the authorizations in the course of 2022 and award the works next year,” reports Bueno.
Pedestrianization of Miguel Marrero Street
Another project to be financed with these European funds is the pedestrianization of a section of Miguel Marrero Rodríguez Avenue in Arguineguín. The mayor is meeting this afternoon with business owners from the commercial area along this main thoroughfare and the surrounding streets to begin working on this project and to understand their needs regarding new technologies and digital transformation.
Bueno affirms that to carry out a work like the one intended, which will be a reality next year, it is important to create a working commission with all the parties involved to have a comprehensive vision and thus develop a project that benefits residents. , merchants and tourists. Likewise, he points out that this commission will be used in the future to work "on other calls to which we want to apply for the benefit of this Open Commercial Zone."
