Tirajana Cement Plant: CC surrounds Ceisa with the San José quarry

The former CEO of Gesplan and regional deputy of the CC, Beatriz Calzada, has asked the Parliament of the Canary Islands that the Government provide her with an official report on the San José quarry in the "concession for its exploitation granted to Cementos Especiales de las Islas (Ceisa ) "and its extension", according to the record of the Parliament of the Canary Islands. In this way, the party in Tenerife wants to know what stone extraction capacity there is to generate cement.

Ceisa's facilities in the port of Santa Águeda allow both the unloading of raw materials and the loading of cement to be carried out without intermediate transport, in a fully automated process from the ship to the ships, which includes the best available techniques (BATs). that prevent the emission of dust into the atmosphere. The San José quarry is where a local raw material is extracted, natural pozzolana, considered one of the best cement additions in the world for its great qualities of durability, resistance and impermeability.

The mass that sits in Arguineguín was built in the 1950s to supply the manufacturing of the Soria Dam with the extraction of natural pozzolana in the San José quarry with which the cement and, later, mortars, precast and concrete are made. . In a still unpopulated environment, the cement factory grew alongside the tourist explosion of the sixties, becoming an essential industry for the economic advancement of Gran Canaria and other islands.
