Gran Canaria Tourism improves tourist infrastructure in Mogán

Improving the destination's image, revitalizing the sector, encouraging hiring during the pandemic, and offering residents an improved quality of life. These are some of the key priorities highlighted by Carlos Álamo, Tourism Councillor of Gran Canaria , during his visit this Wednesday, along with the Mayor of Mogán, Onalia Bueno, to four recently completed projects in the southern municipality's tourism infrastructure, fully funded by Gran Canaria Tourism with €812.000.

 

“It is very important for us that tourists find an improved destination upon their return to Gran Canaria, after the standstill we have suffered as a result of the pandemic,” explained Carlos Álamo . “But it was also a way to stimulate employment at a time when the tourism sector was not in a position to offer opportunities. At Gran Canaria Tourism, we have quadrupled our investment and funding efforts towards the municipalities, especially in terms of rehabilitation and beautification, and so far this term we have carried out works in Mogán worth 2,5 million euros,” added the Gran Canaria Island Council member.

 

The mayor of Mogán, Onalia Bueno, highlighted that the interventions visited are already completed and in use. “These investments have an impact on the improvement of the tourist infrastructure of Mogán and in this case they also respond to demands from certain communities in the municipality,” Bueno added in relation to the creation of a playground in Los Altos de Puerto Rico, next to the Shopping Center. Europe, and “where there was no leisure and recreation area for minors and exercise for the elderly.”

 

Onalia Bueno thanked Álamo for the visit and the collaboration of the Ministry she leads for allowing continuity in the improvement of the municipality's tourist infrastructure and also carrying out new projects. Likewise, Bueno expressed the importance of annual investment increasing for a municipality like Mogán, with an eminently touristic nature. “Mogán is one of the economic engines of Gran Canaria and we need to go hand in hand with higher Public Administrations, in this case the Cabildo, to be able to develop all the projects that we have in the portfolio and that are necessary to offer a current destination adapted to the demand of those who visit us. Also for our residents,” she noted. The insular Tourism Minister picked up the gauntlet and expressed his willingness to continue this path of collaboration. “We are convinced that this collaboration with the 21 municipalities of the Island is more necessary than ever at this time. That is why we have multiplied the investment in this municipality by four and we are going to continue in this line,” concluded Carlos Álamo. 

 

The different Tourism investments start from the 2020 and 2021 budgets and are intended to improve the destination and tourist infrastructure, and the sum of them reaches an approximate total of 812.000 euros. The accounts for the 2022 financial year also contemplate the allocation of a subsidy of 150.000 euros for rehabilitation works in Mogán, at the proposal of the City Council. 

 

 

The first part of the visit was to see the new playground, which has gymnastics elements for seniors on Timanfaya Street in Puerto Rico. This intervention had an allocation of 147.871,96 euros, coming in its entirety from the agreement entered into between the Mogán City Council and the Gran Canaria Tourist Board for the execution of the Strategy to Improve the Tourist Public Space on the Island, corresponding to the 2020 financial year. . 

 

An improvement in the promenade and toilets on Taurito beach is also expected to be carried out in 2022, with an allocation of 251.929,53 euros, corresponding to the 2021 financial year. However, the rehabilitation of the Las Marañuelas seafront is already completed. (reconversion of the flower bed, removal of rockery and new rescue post and toilets) with a budget of 42.750 euros, for the 2020 financial year. The mayor highlighted that this intervention has allowed us to gain several meters of sand next to the promenade. 

 

Another intervention was carried out on the access stairs to Patalavaca beach, for 42.706,81 euros, which have also been embellished with a mural. 

The new pedestrian walkways to access the beach in Puerto Rico, from the road, have had a budget of 134.172,91 euros, corresponding to the 2020 financial year.

 

Finally, throughout this year the renovation, with acoustic improvement and its enclosure, of the Plaza Pérez Galdós tent is planned, for 150.000 euros, and the installation of shading for the Playa de Playa children's park will be carried out. Mogán, for 42.532,50 euros. 

 

Finally, Carlos Álamo recalled that the Cabildo de Gran is the administration that leads public investment in the Archipelago, with more than 60% of the investment in public works and some 800 projects underway in Gran Canaria. “In this line, Gran Canaria Tourism has made an enormous budgetary effort, multiplying its allocations by four compared to last year, to stimulate the economy and improve the destination.”
