Red Eléctrica de España now has a free hand to launch Chira Soria's work in the south of the island. This initiative, planned in the Gran Canaria municipalities of San Bartolomé de Tirajana and Mogán and promoted by REE, foresees the construction of a 200 MW power plant and 3,2 GWh of storage, a desalination station and the associated marine works, as well as the necessary facilities. for connection to the transport network. Salto de Chira is the largest ecological transition project in the Canary Islands and one of the largest in Spain. It is a hydroelectric plant that will store the excess renewable energy in the system in the form of water in the Chira reservoir and will reinsert it into the system through a jump to the Soria reservoir. It will also generate a surplus of 700.000 cubic meters of water for the primary sector, reforestation and fighting forest fires.
