Blackstone already has 3.551 rooms in Maspalomas

You see a guy with a tie pontificating about tourism promotion and in the end it turns out that he is an employee, in senior management, of people who agree and invest the money from their pension or assets in hotels. That is Blackstone, owner of hotels that manage Lopesan, Barceló or Dunas in the south of Gran Canaria. Who would have thought that the Barceló Las Margaritas, the IFA Catarina or the Dunas Mirador launched by Ángel Luis Tadeo have the same owner? We tell you. 3.551 rooms with two beds equal 7.7.102 rooms multiplied by 365 days of a year: 2.592.230 hotel nights in the south of Gran Canaria are accounted for at number 345 Park Avenue in New York. To all this, one detail: the training of personnel and the promotion of these hotels is free because the taxpayer pays for it with their taxes via fairs or financing of product promotional campaigns.

Blackstone owns Hilton. In the south of Gran Canaria there is no Hilton and its Sheraton brand left Salobre because it wanted to have greater management control. But you may find that the 210 rooms of the Corallium (ex IFA) Beach, the 241 rooms of the Dunas Don Gregory, the traditional Dunamar with its 273, the Abora (ex IFA) Continental and its 391 rooms or the 410 of the Catarina , the 395 rooms of the former IFA Interclub, the 484 rooms of the Barceló Occidental Margaritas, the 436 rooms of the Dunas Mirador Maspalomas or the 511 rooms of the Dunas Suites & Maspalomas. In Mogán Labranda has put a hotel in the hands of a Bankinter Socimi, the owner of Tamarindos with Atom Hotels and the Radissons in Mogán are communists because they have the state group Jin Jiang International as owners.

The world of funds is like this: they invest in real estate and the manager keeps it with the option to repurchase it after a time unless the owner directly looks for someone to do it with to earn more money. With that comes renewal - often this operation is left to the manager - and product purchases. This is not always the case: IFA Faro Maspalomas, with 179 double rooms, of which 20 are junior suites and 6 for tourists with reduced mobility, was renovated by Construplan in the midst of the sale of Lopesan to Apollo Capital Management, owner of the Buenaventura.

Whoever directs this operation from Las Palmas is a Canarian. Óscar Ramos is the orchestra director of Blackstone's subsidiary for its hotel assets, called Hotel Investment Partners (HI Partners), responsible for the group's portfolio located in the Canary Islands. With more than 20 years of experience in the hotel and tourism industry, he began his professional career at Canora and then joined Meliá Hotels International (MHI) for almost 17 years, managing 16 of the company's emblematic hotels in the Canary Islands and Cape Verde. In 2016 he was CEO at Meeting Point Spain, of FTI Group, then with 27 hotel and non-hotel assets in the Canary Islands.

The hotel sector is facing the second quarter of 2022 with a wave of investments whose amount would be over 2.000 million euros, according to the operations planned by some of the leading players in the segment, who agree to take firm steps towards investment reactivation. A figure that would exceed the total accumulated investment volume of 1.094 million in the first six months of the year, according to data managed by Colliers International. Therefore, very positive prospects for the hotel investment market in 2022 and which are also shared by Colliers, which assures that the investment activity they have observed to date "is nothing more than the tip of the iceberg, since investment appetite is at historical highs after months of drought on the buying side and the extremely high liquidity levels only increase the buying pressure," they explain.
