It was the year 2010 when a Dutch citizen came to spend a few days on vacation in Maspalomas. As is customary, most of the tourists who visit us usually leave the hotels to see the different corners of Gran Canaria. And that's when Guillermo stops being a tourist and becomes a neighbor. 200.000 kilos of stone have passed through his hands to condition the entire area, of which he bought 4.000 square meters. Guillermo is a castle. The Dutch have an average height of 1,87 meters but he is 2,10 meters tall, like the ancient Canaries who resisted the invasions of the past. Precisely, the resident of Fataga who has recovered the mill takes advantage of each winter so that the history of this heritage site is not lost for 10 years. Since 2012 he has spent six months in the south of the island creating a spectacular botanical garden, combining different varieties of cacti, prickly pears, pitas, dragon trees, veroles, aloe vera and immortelles.
Guillermo, 61 years old, a sculptor in his country, when passing through Fataga and contemplating the ravines, flora and mountains, he was perplexed and enchanted by so much beauty. The following year he returned to Fataga and bought the Gurieta Mill, built in 1850 by Juan Moreno, when he returned from Cuba, paying two pounds of wool for the land. When he died, he left it to his seven children, who had a month each, for about fifty years. Later it passed to the Cazorla family, until 1.920 and in turn he sold it to Juan de Armas, who was mayor. of Tirajana around the years 35/36. After his death in 1942, his son Eduardo Armas Cabello inherited it, which continued its operation until the 60s. From this date it stopped operating due to the loss of strength, the decline of the water. The La Gurieta mill was always for family consumption, producing a kilo of gofio per hour.
