Photographic exhibition that makes women visible in masculinized environments

The chief officer of the Agüimes Local Police, Luisa González Alemán, has been selected to be part of the exhibition 'Visible Women', organized by the Department of Equality of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria and the Zuleyma Women's Association on the occasion of the International Day of Women, which will be celebrated next March 8. The exhibition, inaugurated this Wednesday, will be traveling. Until next March 13, it can be seen at the headquarters of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria and later it will tour the 21 municipalities of the island.

The exhibition is part of the 'Unity makes equality' campaign, one more of the joint awareness-raising actions resulting from the coordination between the Cabildo and the island's town councils, within the strategic program for equality 'Gran Canaria Infinita'. The campaign emphasizes the union between public administrations, social organizations and civil society, but also on the necessary union between women themselves to continue moving towards a freer, fairer and more egalitarian society.

During the inauguration of the exhibition, the president of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Antonio Morales, stressed the idea of ​​unity of action as a fundamental requirement for achieving the common objective of effective equality between men and women. The mayor of Agüimes, in his capacity as vice president of the Canarian Federation of Municipalities, reiterated the commitment of the city councils and highlighted the importance of continuing to break the gender stereotypes that hinder the personal and professional development of many women.

'Visible Women' highlights the work of outstanding women in masculinized environments, studies and professions where they are still a minority due to the reproduction of gender stereotypes. The objective is to contribute to the transformation of environments in which discrimination, invisibility and devaluation of women still persist.
