XIV Gran Canaria Half Marathon Mayor Camilo Sánchez returns to the streets of Vecindario

Next year this competition will organize a night test

More than 1.600 athletes will participate in the different events of the XIV Gran Canaria Mayor Camilo Sánchez Memorial Half Marathon that will be held from this Friday to Sunday in the streets of Vecindario. 21 people have registered in the 334 km queen race, 10,5 in 414 km, 5 in 430 km and 482 in the children's race. After being suspended for two years due to the pandemic, this weekend it returns with some restrictions due to health regulations.

 

The mayor of Santa Lucía de Tirajana, Francisco García, highlighted that “celebrating this marathon again has a lot of meaning, because it highlights this hallmark of our municipality and also shows that we are returning to normality and we can continue demonstrating the values that sport has in our municipality, where athletes of all categories have a place.” The mayor thanked the Gran Canaria Council for its financial support “because it allows us to continue holding this competition, which is already established as an essential event on our island and which brings together athletes of more than 40 nationalities and from different islands.” The mayor also thanked the athletics clubs for their collaboration.

 

The Councilor for Sports, Pedro Sánchez, pointed out as new this year "the children's race will be on Saturday morning starting at 9.30:5, there will be t-shirts and medals for all participating boys and girls." Sánchez highlighted that “The majority of the boys and girls who participate are from the local athletics clubs and the Las T ederas and Casa Pastores schools.” "Another novelty - added Sánchez - is that the 17,30km race will be held on Saturday afternoon starting at XNUMX:XNUMX p.m." The Sports Councilor announced that "next year we will have a great novelty, we are going to do a night test, from Monday after this edition we will start working on it, because we believe that it will be an important step and a new attraction for this competition" .

 

The Fruit Walk will be this Friday starting at 5.30:10 in the afternoon and will depart from the Municipal Sports Pavilion. On Friday from 17 a.m. to XNUMX p.m. the numbers will be handed out at the outside ticket office of the Municipal Sports Pavilion.

 

The Sports Councilor of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Francisco Castellano, thanked “the City Council of Santa Lucía de Tirajana for all its contribution to celebrating this test, which for me is The Test with a capital letter because of the importance it has.” Castellano also expressed his gratitude to the organizers and the athletics clubs. The president of the Gran Canaria Athletics Federation thanked “the City Council of Santa Lucía de Tirajana and the Cabildo of Gran Canaria for continuing to support the Gran Canaria Half Marathon, because it is one of the most important sporting events on our island.”

 

Access to the event area will be limited to one capacity. Each minor will have to be accompanied by his or her father, mother or guardian. Group clubs or schools must be accompanied by a tutor, professor or coach. No minor will be able to enter if she is not accompanied by a responsible adult.
