Tirajana condemns the invasion and expresses solidarity with the people of Ukraine

Mayor Conchi Narváez showed, in an emotional event at the doors of the town hall with Ukrainian citizens living in the municipality, her support in a statement signed by all groups

The mayor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Conchi Narváez, read today, together with the spokespersons of the groups, an Institutional Declaration in which "the firm rejection and condemnation of the military invasion perpetrated by the Government of the Federation of "Russia to the people of Ukraine."

 

The event was also joined by municipal workers who wanted to show their support, “in the face of an action that violates the fundamental rights of human beings and the basic norms of international law,” said Narváez in his speech.

 

Also, a large group of Ukrainian citizens residing in the municipality joined the event. The mayor, visibly affected, spoke with them, especially with Anna, mother of four children, who has been living in San Bartolomé de Tirajana for seven years and who could not contain her tears, as she recounted how a large part of her family survives being confined in basements of kyiv and other cities besieged by the Russian army.

 

“I haven't been able to contact my parents and siblings for days. There is no electricity, there are no telephones to communicate… I am desperate,” she confessed between cries of pain and helplessness.

The mayor, on behalf of the municipal institution: “We want to send you our solidarity and the warmth of all the residents of this municipality. A welcome and affection also extends to the Russian citizens who live in our municipality and who are opposed to this unacceptable gratuitous exhibition of force."

 

“This Corporation,” the document continues, “expresses its strong disapproval of the warlike action that will cause, as is already occurring, human drama and pain, as well as the destabilization of the necessary global social and economic balance, as the Ukrainian citizens deserve. that of Russia and the European Union.”

 

“We also demand the immediate withdrawal of invading troops and the cessation of hostilities in Ukraine. The Ukrainian people must return to peace and independence as a sovereign State,” added the first councilor in her speech in front of the municipal offices.

 

He stressed that “San Bartolomé de Tirajana is a town of peace and harmony. Thousands of men and women from countries on the five continents reside here, including Ukraine.”

 

The Institutional Declaration states: “We advocate peace for the people, for compliance with the basic values ​​of democracy, for the opening of diplomatic channels to clarify differences and immediately conclude the nonsense of war.

 

Finally, and in an atmosphere of contained emotion, Narváez showed, like the members of the institution, “support for the Government of Spain and the European Union in defense of peace and the principles of the rule of law.”
