The City Council of Ingenio, through the Department of Equality, presents the programming prepared for this commemoration
With acts of recognition and visibility of female references in different areas (social, professional, sports, cultural...) the Villa de Ingenio will commemorate March 8, International Women's Day, this month.
The City Council of Ingenio, through the Department of Equality, has prepared a varied program of activities with the collaboration of different municipal areas and entities, highlighting the Institutional Act that will take place on the same 8M at the Federico García Lorca Cultural Center. During the day, “in addition to reading the Institutional Declaration, the 8M Distinction will be awarded, which aims to recognize people or groups that have stood out in their careers in promoting equality between men and women. women of our town,” said the Councilor for Equality, Elena Suárez, reporting that this year the distinction falls to Dunia Gómez Martel, as approved this Monday at the corporate plenary session. Likewise, a documentary about the figure of Ana María Afonso Morales, the first woman lawyer in the municipality, will be presented that day, prepared by the El Ingenio Collective in collaboration with Este Canal TV.
On the other hand, from March 4 to 18 you can visit the exhibition "Readings in Women's Key" in the Study Room of the Carrizal Civic Center prepared by the municipal library service composed of more than 30 works for all ages under the denominator common vision of women and covering a wide variety of topics, from novels and short stories to biographies, science, politics and history.
The 8M programming also includes the launch of the Olimpia Campaign by the municipality's educational centers, which aims to promote equal treatment between women and men in the sports field and make female sports references visible. It will take place from March 7 to 28 by the company awarded this training service, PSICAS.
And from the 14th to the 20th the town will host the exhibition “Visible Women” of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria developed by the Zuleima Women's Association together with the 21 Equality Councilors of the island. This is a photographic exhibition that includes a 'visible woman' from each municipality, with María Esther Rivero Méndez, criminologist, specialist in Gender and Equality Policies and well-known activist for women's rights, being the representative of our municipality. .
Workshops for youth in the Ingeniojoven Creative Space and the I Women's Petanque Tournament to be held on March 27 complete the 8M programming of the Villa de Ingenio.
