Cabildo and Tirajana complete the rehabilitation of Paseo de Meloneras

A global investment of 1.160.658 euros, of which the Cabildo of Gran Canaria has contributed 700.000 euros and the State, the remaining 460.660, has made possible the rehabilitation of Paseo de Meloneras, in San Bartolomé de Tirajana. 

The renovated infrastructure, whose project has been promoted by the Consortium for the Tourist Rehabilitation of Maspalomas, made up of the Insular Corporation and the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council, was inaugurated today by the president of the Government of Gran Canaria and the Consortium itself, Antonio Morales ; the mayor, Concepción Narváez; the insular Minister of Tourism, Carlos Álamo; and the first deputy mayor, Samuel Henríquez. 

"When we came to the Government of the Cabildo, we acquired the commitment to focus on improving the infrastructure and public facilities of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, and we have acted through different investment plans, to respond to the needs that were posed to us in every moment the City Council,” said Antonio Morales. "This is an investment package that exceeds 10 million euros for projects throughout the municipality, but mainly in the tourist area." 

In this regard, he recalled that, in this mandate, a large public space has already been inaugurated in Castillo del Romeral, the Tony Gallardo Park, the GC-500 and Paseo de Meloneras itself. Likewise, he has cited other relevant projects present in the items destined for the municipality, such as the San Fernando municipal swimming pool; the continuity work of the Tony Gallardo Palmeral, for which an agreement has already been signed with the public company Tragsa; the Municipal Market, whose project is in the adjudication process; and the Ethnographic Museum, which will open in April, in the Maspalomas Lighthouse. 

“Today we are faced with another work that was absolutely necessary, given the state of deterioration that the Paseo de Meloneras was in, and that is already a beautiful reality,” concluded Morales, who has reaffirmed “the commitment of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria to "continue joining efforts with San Bartolomé de Tirajana, in order to respond to all the needs that arise in terms of public investments, job creation and attention to the people most affected by the crisis." 

For her part, Concepción Narváez has described the work on Paseo de Meloneras as “one more example of the importance of dialogue, effort and coordinated work with other administrations.” The mayor thanked the Cabildo for its determined commitment to this enclave, and for being clear that “the economic engine of Gran Canaria is here, in Maspalomas Costa Canaria”, and stressed that “it is a reference space in Europe and hence the relevance to continue improving all public tourist facilities, always hand in hand with the investments and renewal of private companies, which have made a great effort.” 

“The Department of Tourism of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria has made a significant effort to promote and activate this rehabilitation tool, in order to improve our tourist destination, at this time when the industry that generates the most opportunities is reactivated. and the people of Gran Canaria, and now we are beginning to see the fruits,” said Carlos Álamo. “The objectives were and are clear: boost the tourism economy, address the precariousness and lack of job opportunities that arose with the outbreak of Covid-19 and confinement, and many of these projects are already at the service of citizens and the visitors”, added the Minister of Tourism. 

Finally, Samuel Henríquez has welcomed the close collaboration between the City Council and the Cabildo of Gran Canaria and the boost that has been given to the Maspalomas Tourist Rehabilitation Consortium. The first deputy mayor has also emphasized compliance with the City Council's commitment to improve the entire coastline of the municipality, "of which this Paseo de Meloneras is a good example of this", and has assured that, before the end of this year , “we will have our beach services up to date, because they are the jewel in our crown.” 

The rehabilitation of Paseo de Meloneras has been carried out in two phases. The first, which runs between Mar de Norway street and Meloneras beach, has had a budget of 460.660 euros financed by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism of the Central Executive. And the second, which includes the section between Mar de Norway street and the Maspalomas Lighthouse, has been paid for with 699.997 euros from the coffers of the Tourist Board of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria. 

The tasks have consisted, fundamentally, of repaving the promenade, implementing artificial rainwater drainage elements, renewing part of the lighting, installing new street furniture and landscaping the flower beds in the area, among other improvements and renovations. 

Heated municipal swimming pool 

The delegation has visited the work being carried out at the Ernesto Hernández municipal swimming pool, in San Fernando de Maspalomas, with the aim of air conditioning the facilities and creating a sustainable infrastructure, which is also financed by the Tourist Board of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria with 471.930 euros. 

 

 

The tasks include the air conditioning of the semi-Olympic swimming pool and the rehabilitation pool, the installation of centralized domestic hot water and the provision of the systems and materials necessary for the complex to comply with the Low Voltage Electrotechnical Regulations. 

To this end, among other actions, high-efficiency heat pump equipment has been implemented to heat the pools and 300 photovoltaic solar panels have been installed to harness solar energy. 

In this way, the water temperature will be increased by 7 degrees, energy consumption will be reduced by more than 70%, the cost of chemical products will be reduced by 30% and water evaporation levels will be reduced. by 98%.
