Conchi Narváez: "The 8M is not a celebration, it is a demand. I hope it truly resonates with all segments of Tirajan society."
The mayor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Concepción Narváez, finalizes this weekend the program of events designed by the Department of Equality, headed by Irasema Hernández, on the occasion of International Women's Day, 8 M.
A program of high quality and sensitivity due to the content of the planned actions that, among others, features the participation of the Canarian actress Antonia San Juan. She will be the stand-up San Juan, presenting her work 'Interview with My Daughter Mary', a satire of women who help perpetuate machismo with the different treatment they give to men and women. This performance will be on Tuesday, March 8, at 20:30 p.m., at the Maspalomas Cultural Center.
The commitment to defending women's rights by the first mayor of Tunte is evident and is reflected both on her personal level and in the development of her functions as a public office. That is why Narváez wanted this day, “not of celebration, but of protest, to be very special and to truly resonate with all segments of Tirajana society,” he indicated.
In addition to the performance of San Juan, highlight the participation of the Gran Canarian comedian Omayra Cazorla who, also, under the support of the monologue, presents 'Diversity and Equality' at the Center for Adults, CEO Tunte, at the Casa de la Cultura El Haystack.
Walk for Equality, technical conferences, workshops and exhibitions
In short, “a dense and committed program of events in which, I also want to signify the 'XXII M. Ángeles Ruano Suárez Walk for Equality', which will depart on March 12, at 08:00 a.m. from the Casa Condal Park and that is open to male participation,” stressed Councilor Irasema Hernández.
Three workshops aimed at emphasizing, making visible and consolidating the self-esteem and empowerment of women, will be held to commemorate 8M, with titles as suggestive as 'Releasing the guilt and shame of being a woman', 'I, me, me with myself' or the so-called 'Achieve your Goals Developing your Potential, all coordinated by psychology, sociology or social work professionals.
Art also has a woman's name for this special day. Specifically, exhibitions will be presented such as the one carried out by the users of the ´Yo, Mi, Me Conmigo´ workshop, entitled "We are, because we were", and `Visible Women', carried out by the Cabildo of Gran Canaria in collaboration with the 21 Municipalities.
The inauguration of the Mural 'Together and diverse building equality' is also planned; Andrea Farah's performance, Storyteller; the conference dedicated to 'Sport in Equality', or the Technical Conferences titled, 'A Multidisciplinary Look at Gender Violence'.
