Starting this week, the municipal swimming pools are recovering all the activities that existed before the suspension of the courses due to the closure and capacity restrictions that had to be made since March 2020 due to the covid 19 pandemic. Users and Users of the Union pool and the Los Llanos Sports Complex pool can receive classes at different levels. Classes for babies, and basic levels for children and adults can now be done.
The Councilor for Sports, Pedro Sánchez, highlights that “the long-awaited normality after the pandemic is just around the corner, the use of masks indoors will continue, but once capacity restrictions are lifted, classes for babies can now be held. and the child and adult levels.”
With the declaration of the state of alarm throughout the Spanish state in March 2020, all sports facilities, urban parks, recreational areas and municipal offices were closed. This situation lasted until the month of June, the municipal government took advantage of those three months to renovate the sports facilities and paint them. The Unión pool reopened on July 6, 2020 and the Los Llanos pool reopened on July 13.
The sports area staff will call users who were enrolled in courses before the pandemic to inform them of the resumption of classes in the pools and to re-form the different groups. In January 2021, when the island of Gran Canaria entered alert level 3, the municipal government once again closed sports facilities, recreational areas and urban parks. The use of sports facilities was only allowed for federated athletes or those participating in national competitions. Before the closure due to the pandemic, there were a total of 4.000 registered users in the two pools.
