The island corporation has invested 2,6 million euros in the ZCA modernization plan of this municipality and plans to invest half a million more in efficient lighting

“The renovation of Parque de la Era will allow it to be integrated into one of the most attractive commercial areas of the Canary Islands and will be another attraction for residents and visitors,” said Minerva Alonso, Minister of Industry, Commerce and Crafts of the Cabildo. from Gran Canaria, during his visit this Friday to the works that are being carried out in the municipality of Santa Lucía de Tirajana. “It is another example of our commitment to this town and that, so far, we have invested 2,6 million euros to improve this commercial area and we will invest 500.000 euros more in 2022 in an efficient lighting project, which will make it a more sustainable commercial area,” added Alonso.

“We are going to recover a space of great cultural and ethnographic value, since here, in the middle of the last century, barley and wheat were threshed,” commented Francisco García, mayor of this municipality in the southeast of the island and who accompanied his see the counselor, along with other public officials. “It reflects, therefore, the foundations of this coastal municipality,” he concluded.

The rehabilitation works of Parque de la Era involve the transformation of its structure and architecture for its complete integration into the ZCA. It will thus be able to have a boulevard area to host fairs and traffic will be improved with traffic lights in the area. These improvements are being carried out in a timely manner, so they are scheduled to be completed in the month of August.

The square will have new pavement, new lighting, the sidewalks will be widened, accessibility will be improved, 21 new trees will be placed, as well as new benches in the expansion of the pedestrian area. The sculpture in homage to sharecropping made by the sculptor Santiago Vargas will also be maintained. The tendered budget for this work amounts to an additional 560.000 euros, which are contributed by the Cabildo of Gran Canaria.

The ethnographic value of the area is related to the agricultural development in that place, a space where cereals were planted and it was also used as a drying room for millet pineapples. Next to the square there was a large house, where the pastor Jacinto Pérez and the property manager José Verdugo lived. In the house, which preserves its original structure, there is currently the Tourist Office, the Craft Center and the Commerce office.
