The Passion of Sardina meets its audience again 10 years later with the screening of a documentary: 'The Passion of Sardina, half a century making a town'. Next Tuesday, April 12 at 8 pm this audiovisual work will premiere at the El Cine de Sardina Cultural Center. The Santa Lucía de Tirajana City Council has sponsored this documentary to commemorate the half century of this representation in which more than two hundred people participated in its different editions.

Invitations to attend the screening will be collected for free on Wednesday, April 6 and Thursday, April 7 from 4 to 8 pm at the Sardina library. You can collect two invitations per person. The Santa Lucía de Tirajana City Council has been working for several weeks with the group in charge of the Sardina Passion to prepare the recording and editing of the documentary. Significant production work had to be done to locate the people who have been participating in the Passion Play for the past four decades. The representation of the Passion of Sardina could not be represented during the last ten years for different reasons, but for forty years this representation mobilized the people of Sardina, going beyond the religious and cultural, and provoking an important participatory and community movement.

A few days ago the documentary was recorded, which included around 30 people interviewed, including actors, actresses, costumers, set designers, etc. The guests, from different generations and with different roles within the play, remembered the importance of a staging that united the entire town of Sardina for several months. The first representation of the Sardina Passion dates back to 1970, by Francisco Suárez, a teacher by profession and a lover of culture and social activist of the town, who promoted the representations of the Passion, together with a large group of neighbors and neighbors and that grew as the influx of public increased.

The Councilor for Citizen Participation, Ana Gopar, highlights that "The objective of this documentary, which we have promoted from this council, is to remember the participatory spirit of the town of Sardina, to rescue the memory of our town." The councilor adds that "we hope that the work can be performed again and recover this participatory process that, in addition, goes beyond the religious and is also a cultural reference."
