It will take place from April 21 to 29 in the four municipal libraries and will be dedicated to peace and solidarity in the world.

The municipal libraries of Agüimes will celebrate, from April 21 to 29, Book Week, dedicated this year to peace and solidarity in the world. Around World Book Day, which is commemorated on April 23, the municipal Culture area has organized a program of great interest for reading lovers and, especially, for families who wish to promote this habit among children. and youthful.

There will be 9 oral storytelling sessions starring Cristina Cabrer, with her 'Stories for Peace'; María Buenadicha and her 'Solidarity stories to change the world'; and Yolanda Ortega, with 'My name is Paz', which in addition to a story session will also be a workshop aimed at boys and girls from 5 to 12 years of age. The sessions will take place at the Joaquín Artiles Library, in Agüimes Casco, the Children and Youth Library of Cruce de Arinaga and the Playa de Arinaga Library. In all of them, in addition to the Cruce de Arinaga University Public Library, there will also be exhibitions, with gifts of books and bookmarks for the attending public.

Within the framework of Book Week, two presentations of books by authors linked to the municipality of Agüimes will also be held. On Thursday, April 21, 'La Mantarraya' and 'The overwhelming sun of the dead', by Juan Martín Guerra (Juanele), will be presented. On Thursday, April 28, it will be the turn of 'The return of the hidalgo and other genealogical investigations', by Faneque Hernández and Juan Ramón García, a work dedicated to the history of the indigenous Canary Islands who, around the year 1500, returned to their island of birth, years after having been enslaved or banished. Among them, Fernán de Canaria, who, after participating as a warrior in the conquest of La Palma and Tenerife, returned to Gran Canaria to establish himself as a settler in the recently founded Señorío de Agüimes.

The Book Week activities in Agüimes will be completed with the sixth edition of the Short Stories and Poetry Contest, the rules of which can be consulted on the municipal website, agüimes.es/cultura. World Book Day is commemorated every April 23 to coincide with the birth of the two most illustrious figures in world literature, William Shakespeare and Miguel de Cervantes. The celebration seeks to promote the pleasure of reading, vindicate the cultural contribution of books and protect the legacy that great writers have left throughout history.
