Dr. Michael Ben-Eli, founder of The Sustainability Laboratory and author of the 'Five Basic Principles of Sustainability', among this year's featured speakers
The International Seminar on Sustainable Regions returns on April 27 and 28 after two years of absence due to the pandemic, to recover the debate on sustainable development.
Once again, the Seminar organized by the municipalities of the Southeast of Gran Canaria -Agüimes, Ingenio and Santa Lucía de Tirajana- becomes a reference meeting point regarding sustainable development and the debate on sustainability from different perspectives .
For two days, national and international experts will participate in this forum for exchanging ideas and experiences on the different aspects and experiences of sustainability. As a notable presence, in this fifteenth edition of the Seminar to be held at the Víctor Jara Theater, there will be the presence of Dr. Michael Ben-Eli, founder of The Sustainability Laboratory and author of the Five Basic Principles of Sustainability.
On the other hand, the professor of Applied Physics at the University of La Laguna, Jorge Méndez, will talk about "rare earths", the critical minerals found in the Canary Islands and their applications in improving the efficiency of technology and renewable energy.
The Seminar will also address topics such as the debate between sustainable development and sustainable balance, the implementation of offshore wind farms, hydrogen as an alternative fuel in the decarbonization of the Canary Islands system and emerging technologies in desalination. An innovative project that uses Artificial Intelligence to control energy consumption in a small desalination plant in real time will also be explained.
The Southeast of Gran Canaria, a benchmark in sustainability
The International Seminar on Sustainable Regions was born in 2006 with the purpose of drawing attention to the need to implement actions, policies and strategies that incorporate sustainability in all areas of life.
Today, the municipalities of the Southeast of Gran Canaria have managed to consolidate one of the largest integrated systems of renewable energy and agriculture. These municipalities have an ambitious Sustainable Development Plan in place that includes 24 axes that makes them a reference for the sustainable development of other towns.
The International Seminar on Sustainable Regions is open to all those interested in sustainability in any of its areas (lifestyles, energy, transport, policies and strategies, circular economy, etc.), for which they can register for free through the seminar website ( www.seminariocomarcassostenibles.com ).
