Sabotaje al Montaje is one of the most prominent brands on the Canary Islands artistic scene. In his more than 30 years of experience, he has garnered important national and international recognition and has been able to capture his work on walls, walls and facades around the world, although his greatest award has always been the unanimous applause of the general public. Urban and popular art, pictorial reappropriation of public spaces, XNUMXst century muralism, graffiti with social conscience. Behind all this is the figure of Matías Mata, a passionate and vocational creator, a graduate in Fine Arts and one of the most brilliant plastic artists in the Canary Islands, who has just completed two new murals in the Arinaga Residential Estate.
They are his first works in the municipality of Agüimes and it is very possible that they will not be the last. The City Council is already trying to engage him to find new dates within his busy schedule, highly demanded inside and outside the archipelago, with the aim of him continuing to express his creations in the municipality. The mayor of Agüimes, Óscar Hernández, and the Councilor for Parks and Gardens, Juani Martel, spoke this Monday with the artist right in front of his new murals. Finished painting last Saturday, taking advantage of Holy Week, the realization of it encountered the wind as the main inconvenience. Despite the difficulties, the author is enthusiastic about the final result, which can be admired from the busy GC-100 main road that connects the Cruce to Arinaga Beach.
The murals of the Polígono Residencial become part, from now on, of Sabotaje al Montaje's most personal and creative work, frequent in his international creations - such as those made in Wynwood (Miami) and Baton Rouge (Lousiana) -, but less common in our archipelago. Far from the figurative art that usually stands out in most of his Canarian murals, the painted walls in Agüimes, already reviewed by one of the best-known graffiti and urban art pages in the world, stand out for their abstract inspiration, absolutely free, improvised and spontaneous , urban and colorful in nature. Geometric shapes, light and dynamism, a chromatic explosion with which the artist establishes an artistic dialogue between the urbanization and its immediate surroundings. With the vegetal barrier that separated and hidden the neighborhood gone, replaced by a new, friendlier and more inclusive landscaping, the space now becomes a bridge of understanding, an opportunity for discovery, knowledge and understanding of a place and people that They call to see and be seen by neighbors and visitors.
