The Cruce de Arinaga celebrates its first pilgrimage this Sunday

MASPALOMAS24H Thursday, April 21, 2022

The San José Obrero festivities return with popular and participatory events from April 22 to May 7.

HOLIDAY PROGRAM HERE

The San José Obrero festivities, in Cruce de Arinaga, return with force after two years without being able to be celebrated on the street due to the pandemic. This Sunday, April 24, starting at 11 in the morning, the pilgrimage will take place in honor of the patron saint, in which the neighbors, dressed in traditional clothing, will once again gather around the carts, the products typical and folklore of the land.

The pilgrimage will leave the parking lot located next to the Doramas school and will run towards the church along Doramas, Bentejuí, Beletén and Avenida de Ansite streets. At the end of the tour, the party can continue in the Primero de Mayo square, with the taifa dance that, starting at four in the afternoon, will be enlivened by the Merita La Pena, El Pajullo and El Mejunje parties.

The celebration of San José Obrero at the Arinaga Crossing is more than just a religious devotion. It is also a vindication of the identity of this neighborhood, linked to the efforts of the working families who gave rise to it. The working-class character of Cruce de Arinaga has allowed it to overcome difficulties and achieve the prosperity and well-being that this population center enjoys today, which brings together nearly 30% of the population of the municipality of Agüimes.

From this Friday, April 22, until next May 7, cultural events, concerts, festivals and children's activities will take place. In addition to the pilgrimage and the taifa dance, the events on Friday, April 29, stand out: the K-pop contest and the young people's night in the Primero de Mayo square, the night of serenades through the streets of the neighborhood and the folkloric meeting in the Crossing of Cultures Theater. On Sunday, May 1, the livestock fair will take place and Saturday, May 7, will be completely dedicated to Latin music, with a dance battle in the morning, salsa, bachata and kizomba workshops in the afternoon and the final culmination of the expected concert by Montellier, Cuban singer, author and producer, founder of the band 'Los Jefes de Cuba'.
