The Ordinary Plenary Session of the City Council approves the local festivities for next year's work calendar
The Plenary Session of the Agüimes City Council, in its ordinary session corresponding to the month of April, approved this Monday the two local festivities that it is responsible for designating for the work calendar for next year 2023. The two days established as holidays will once again be January 20 , the day of San Sebastián, patron saint of the municipality, and Carnival Thursday, which in 2023 will fall on February 23.
The Municipal Plenary also approved the declaration of the public company Sagulpa, SA (Municipal Parking Company of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria) as its own personified media, which will allow the Agüimes City Council to carry out orders as a technical service for the realization of jobs and activities related to their powers and functions in the field of urban mobility, as other municipalities on the islands already do, such as Tejeda, San Sebastián de La Gomera or San Cristóbal de La Laguna. Agüimes will thus be able to take advantage of the knowledge and experience accumulated by this public company in traffic management, traffic light regulation, public parking or the implementation of new modes of transport that contribute to sustainable mobility, areas of action in which Sagulpa has become a pioneer and reference for the entire Canary Islands.
Two motions addressed to the Government of the Canary Islands were also approved in the plenary session. The first, presented by the Canarian Coalition, urges the Ministry of Education to maintain the subject of History and Geography of the Canary Islands as compulsory in secondary education, given the proposal made by the Government to eliminate such obligation. The second motion, presented by Roque Aguayro's group, urges the Ministry of Ecological Transition, Fight against Climate Change and Territorial Planning to assume the cost and management of the personal, material and economic means necessary to carry out the planning modifications. that derive from the declaration of general interest of renewable energy implementation projects. Agüimes is one of the municipalities in the Canary Islands that houses the most facilities of this type in its territory. The problem arises with projects not initially contemplated in the General Planning Plan that, when declared of general interest by the Government, require the modification of urban planning. This imposed and unexpected task, added to the current legal impediments to the hiring of new personnel in the City Councils, ends up clogging the municipal technical offices, making their assumption by the local administration unfeasible.
