About 200 Primary, Secondary and High School students from the municipality of Agüimes took to the streets this Wednesday and Thursday to carry out their Physical Education classes in front of everyone. The initiative is part of the activities to celebrate the International Day of Physical Education in the Street, which is organized every April 28 by the General Council of Physical and Sports Education. The objective is to show citizens what the contents of this subject are and how its classes are taught today, something unknown to a large part of the population, which continues to have as a reference the concept of the old gymnastics classes.
By taking the subject to the streets, teachers aim to make known the skills that their students acquire, the benefits that physical education has for the school population and the teaching methodology that is applied today in educational centers, which is far from than what was done in the past. The aim is to highlight the value that the promotion of sports practice has for young people, promoting an active lifestyle from the earliest ages until the end of compulsory training and high school, thus contributing to achieving a healthier and more sustainable society. healthy.
The celebration was supported in the town of Agüimes by the Nuestra Señora del Rosario school and the Joaquín Artiles Secondary Education Institute, while in Playa de Arinaga the Veinte de Enero school participated. The classes of different courses rotated through the four activities located in as many stations installed in various emblematic points of the municipality. Thus, while in Agüimes Casco the students exercised in the Plaza del Rosario, the Auditorium Theater, the Senior Center and the Municipal Swimming Pool, in Playa de Arinaga they did so at the Pier, the Plaza de Arinaga, the Urban Park and the plaza of the sports hall. The initiative had the collaboration of the Sports area of the Agüimes City Council and the help of the intern students of the Higher Cycle of Socio-Sports Animation of the CIFP Villa de Agüimes.
