The Southeast Fair says goodbye until November with 100.000 visitors and more than 300.000 euros in sales

 

The 17th Southeast Fair ended today, overcoming the challenge of achieving the expected attendance of 100.000 people over the three days. “The success has been resounding” both due to the influx of public and the sales of the producers and artisans, said Óscar Hernández, mayor of Agüimes, the host municipality of this edition of the fair.

 

Specifically, the mayor stated that during the weekend more than 300.000 euros in sales have been generated, just from the direct activity of the fair, to which we must add the indirect income from restaurant establishments and businesses in the surrounding area, which They have also benefited from attending this annual event.

 

The mayors of the southeast of Gran Canaria agreed to highlight “people's desire” to share and enjoy outdoor activities, after two years of absence. “People want to go out and be in contact with citizens and that has been demonstrated throughout the entire weekend,” said the mayor of Ingenio, Ana Hernández, who highlighted the importance of this event “to support the primary sector and to producers and artisans.”

 

The mayor of Santa Lucía, Francisco García, highlighted “the roots of this fair”, not only in the Commonwealth of the Southeast, but also in the rest of the island of Gran Canaria. He also appreciated that farmers, ranchers and artisans can directly sell what they harvest, while attendees can check "the excellence and quality of the products of the southeast." Throughout the weekend, the Fair del Sureste once again became a meeting point for lovers of traditions and local products. Food products from the area took center stage these days in which crafts, plants, livestock, Cancionero Isleño theaters, cooking samples and parties complemented an attractive program of activities.

 

 

Los Sabandeños and Yeray Rodríguez put the finishing touch to this edition of the Fair in the Plaza 1o de Mayo of Cruce de Arinaga, where the Commonwealth of Municipalities of the Southeast recognized, as in previous editions, the contribution of three producers and artisans to agriculture , crafts and Canarian traditions.

 

Thus, the Guedes artisanal cheese factory, in Santa Lucía de Tirajana, was recognized for the high quality of its cheeses. Among them, a half-flower cheese stands out that was the winner in a contest in Guía, despite the fact that producers in the southeast of Gran Canaria do not usually make this type of cheese.

 

The region also recognized the work of Josefa Carmen González, a crochet artisan from Ingenio, who regularly collaborates with various associations to teach the youngest and keep the tradition alive.

 

Finally, Rita Hernández, from Almazara Oro Canario, collected her plaque of gratitude for her contribution to the quality of agricultural production in the southeast, with her organic extra virgin oil, produced in Agüimes.

 

 

Given the success achieved in this fair, the mayors of the Southeast already predict a similar reception in the 18th edition of this meeting, which will be held next November on Avenida de Canarias de Vecindario, in Santa Lucía de Tirajana.
