The ninth edition of the Ethnography and Folklore Campus of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, an initiative framed in the 27th edition of the Villa de Ingenio International Folklore Festival 'Solidarity Show of the People', addresses in its new edition that will take place on July 11 to 15, a varied program that pivots on this occasion around some aspects of the heritage and cultural footprint of the island of La Palma, as well as the importance of Gando Bay in the development of the South-East axis of Gran Canary Islands, clothing and crafts, the décima and the Cuban point as a pedagogical tool or the peculiarities of the Spanish of La Palma.
The aforementioned campus has already opened its free registration period until July 11 for its eight planned sessions, which will take place in person, with limited capacity, in the plenary hall of the Ingenio town hall headquarters.

The Ethnography and Folklore Campus is directed by Manuel Pérez, professor at the ULPGC and Yeray Rodríguez, poet, repentista, verser and Doctor in Hispanic Philology at the ULPGC, and coordinated by David Castellano, president of Coros y Danzas de Ingenio and director of the aforementioned international festival. The University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Vice-rector for Culture, Sports and Campus Social Activation) will issue interested parties a 10-hour certificate for attendance at all planned activities.
The initiative, academically sponsored by the ULPGC, with the Ingenio City Council as its first patron, the executive management of the Ingenio Choirs and Dances Cultural Association, and the collaboration of the Gran Canaria Cabildo and the Canarian Institute of Cultural Development of the Government of the Canary Islands, aims with its program to promote a forum for reflection on the dimension of popular culture in the Canary Islands, promoting the exchange of experiences and ideas, which makes it a meeting in which the cultural identity elements that make up are reconsidered, from academic rigor. the bases of traditional culture in its broadest sense.
The Ethnography and Folklore Campus is one of the many activities planned in the program of the 27th edition of the International Folklore Festival 'Solidarity Show of the People' organized by the Cultural Association Choirs and Dances of Ingenio, an event declared a Festival of Tourist Interest of the Canary Islands, whose edition will last from July 8 to 24 with initiatives ranging from ethnographic exhibitions to cooking classes taught by chef Serafín Romero from the preparation of Palmero desserts, to a photography contest or the performances themselves musical groups from Bulgaria, Mexico and Spain (Andalusia and the Canary Islands) invited to the festival that in the previous two years was forced due to the pandemic to dispense with concerts with the presence and influx of an audience.
From July 11th to 24th, the 27th edition of the Villa de Ingenio International Folklore Festival, "Solidarity Showcase of the Peoples," will have an information point open at both El Corte Inglés department store and Gran Canaria Airport. Tickets are now on sale for five euros at the town hall and online at www.entrees.es for the festival's two main musical events, featuring performances by participating groups. These events will take place in Plaza del Buen Suceso in Carrizal and Plaza de La Candelaria in the town center of Ingenio.
