It will be held on July 20 and has a cost of 25 euros, which includes transportation and food in a restaurant
The Summer University of Maspalomas has organized, on July 20, a pilgrimage by bus to the Jacobean temples that join the route of the Camino de Santiago in Gran Canaria, such as the churches of Santiago 'El Chico', in Tunte, and the Church of Santiago de los Caballeros, in Gáldar.
The walking route along the Camino de Santiago involves some physical effort, but this bus pilgrimage activity will allow anyone to get to know the Jacobean temples by taking advantage of the extension, until 2022, of the celebration of the 2021 Jacobean year.
Registration for this excursion, which costs €25, can be done through the website: https://www.universidadveranomaspalomas.org/materias/100/ . Registration includes round-trip bus transportation from Tunte to Gáldar and lunch at the Los Albores restaurant in Caideros de Gáldar.
The Camino de Santiago de Gran Canaria is the route that connects the south of the island with the Matriz de Santiago de los Caballeros de Gáldar temple, in the northwest of the Island. In addition, part of this route, which starts from the Oasis of Maspalomas, runs through the journey that, according to oral tradition, some Galician sailors made at the beginning of the 15th century carrying the image of Santiago “El Chico” to build a hermitage, now missing, in the heights of Tirajana, in gratitude for having survived a storm on the nearby coast.
Many of the roads and trails along which this route runs were used by the ancient settlers on the journeys they made from the south to the north of the Island and later as livestock routes for transhumance and the movement of pilgrims along the Camino de la Plata. .
