In the presentation, held next to the Church of Nuestra Señora del Carmen in Pérez Galdós Square, Bueno described the return of the festivities to the streets as “very exciting”, since although last year some activities were held with capacity limit, now programming will take place as before the start of the health crisis.

For this reason, in addition, he has stated that both the Carmen de Arguineguín Festival and those also planned this July in Playa de Mogán – the events will be presented later – will be more than ever “a space for the reunion and enjoyment of all.” and all with the activities proposed with the collaboration of the parishes, fishermen's guilds, groups, and neighbors," to whom he also expressed his gratitude.

The cover of the program of events stars neighborhood resident Antonio Medina Santana, popularly known as 'El Piquino'. “This man, who is now 86 years old, came to our municipality when he was only 18 and became an icon of Gran Canaria fishing,” explained the first councilor.

'El Piquino' was a sailor for more than 65 years, a specialist in weaving nets and pots. This led to fishermen from all over the island coming to him and he was also worthy of the nickname 'The Artisan of the Sea'. Antonio Medina is a reflection of the seafaring tradition of the Arguineguín neighborhood, the essence that these celebrations aim to convey, which are above all a commemoration of the Virgin of Carmen, Patroness of the Sea and sailors.

The mayor has stressed the importance of enjoying the festivities responsibly and respecting traditions, also calling for people to attend the Pilgrimage-Ofrenda in honor of the Virgin of Carmen with appropriate traditional clothing.

At the presentation event, the Councilor for Celebrations, Víctor Gutiérrez, detailed all the programming before the media and other members of the Government group such as the accidental councilor of Cultural, Consuelo Díaz and the councilor of Sports, Luis Becerra.
