Next Sunday, July 10, the Agüimense neighborhood of La Goleta will celebrate the big day of its festivities in honor of San Cristóbal, patron saint of drivers. For the occasion, residents are invited to a popular paella that will take place in the square starting at 14:30 p.m., after the religious function, the procession and the traditional blessing of the vehicles. In the afternoon, at the end of lunch, the last festival of the festivities will be held, which will be entertained by Yeray Socorro.

The festive events will begin this Thursday, at 17:00 p.m., with the installation of a fun water playground where boys and girls will be able to beat the heat with a refreshing moment of fun and games. On Friday, children and adults will be able to enjoy Juan Salvador's magic show, starting at 20:00 p.m. At the end of the performance, at 21:30 p.m., it will be the turn of Latin music from Mariachi Peleón.

The ludo water playground will return to the square on Saturday, a day when high temperatures are expected throughout the Canary Islands. At night, starting at 22:30 p.m., music and dancing will be the protagonists with the festival enlivened by Brisa Latin Show. The festival program will be completed with a local excursion to Lago Taurito, which will be celebrated the week after San Cristóbal, on Sunday, July 17.

In addition to its religious nature, the La Goleta festivities are an opportunity for old and new neighbors to share a celebration deeply rooted in the neighborhood, linked to its tradition and identity. La Goleta is one of the historic population centers of the municipality of Agüimes, one of the first stable settlements formed at the beginning of the 20th century around the cultivation of tomato. Until a few decades ago, it also housed one of the highest-rated schools in the region, through which numerous generations of Agüimenses from all corners of the municipality passed. The old school, remembered today with nostalgia, inspired an artistic mural by Irene León, a creation that precisely stars on the cover of this year's festival program.
