The reform, which will have to be carried out within 12 months from its beginning, includes the expansion, improvement, modernization, adaptation, accessibility and energy sustainability of the Maspalomas Municipal Market. In addition, the existing metal structure will be rehabilitated, completed with demolitions and construction of the building referring to the front and interior area of the building, thus improving accessibility and functionality. Elsewhere, the initial project has been improved to also intervene in the environment, providing outdoor bathrooms, landscaping, paving, signage and marking the entire perimeter of the facilities.

The work is made up of two lots: on the one hand, the one referring to the “Rehabilitation and Expansion of the Maspalomas Market”; and, on the other, that of electrical installations, where self-consumption photovoltaic energy installed on the roof will be chosen.

The multifunctional nature of the work raises possibilities for organizing events in the environment. 1.000 parking spaces will be created, about nine spaces for electric vehicle charging, and, inside the building, the offer will have about 21 stores, 8 kiosks and a multipurpose room of 1.000 square meters with a capacity of about 400 spaces. .

Antonio Morales Méndez, president of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, expresses his “satisfaction with the tender for this work, so decisive for the commercial and economic boost of Maspalomas and Gran Canaria and which benefits the population of the area, local producers and to tourism, for the quality of the projected work.” And the Maspalomas Municipal Market has been located in a strategic location, serving as a link between the two largest population centers of Maspalomas, San Fernando and El Tablero, and the tourist area. On the other hand, it will be a meeting point with the primary sector, betting on the consumption of kilometer zero products, where tourists and local visitors will be able to enjoy a unique gastronomic offer.

In this sense, the first deputy mayor of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council, Samuel Henríquez Quintana, describes the project as “the strategic work of this legislature, which responds to the criteria of 'EcoIsla', a sustainable, self-sufficient building, a work of "avant-garde, which allows us to make a considerable leap in quality in terms of public facilities in our municipality." Furthermore, it is fulfilling the commitment acquired by the Consortium with the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, since "the entire budget contributed by the island institution of 10 million euros will be executed."

For her part, Concepción Narváez Vega, mayor of the municipality, comments that “the Maspalomas Municipal Market can become the most important work of our legislature, because at a residential level it is in a strategic location and, furthermore, it is a space referring to tourism, since statistics reflect that this Market is one of the places most visited by tourists when they come to Maspalomas Costa Canaria. Hence the importance of putting a project like this out to tender, which amounts to an investment of more than 7 million euros.”

The initial project has been reviewed in order to guarantee accessibility and self-consumption through the photovoltaic installation, which has also meant a price review. On the other hand, it has been guaranteed that the project responds to the Maspalomas Costa Canaria brand, including a quality tourism offer and commitment to sustainable development.

This action by the Maspalomas Tourist Rehabilitation Consortium joins the investments that have been developed in recent years, such as: the provision of luminaires through the public lighting program, the improvement of accessibility on the beaches, the conditioning of Águila Beach (currently under tender), or the rehabilitation of Paseo de Meloneras with public lighting, among others, executed within the framework of more than the ten million of the Agreement with the Cabido of Gran Canaria.
