MASPALOMAS24H Tuesday, July 12, 2022

It will be held from July 14 to 24, with its main headquarters at ExpoMeloneras

The XV Maspalomas International Trumpet Festival will bring together, from July 14 to 24, outstanding trumpet players of various nationalities and 150 young people who will participate in the program of training and artistic activities. It will also feature the celebration of the Young Festival and the International Forum of Women Trumpeters and Composers, workshops, conferences, exhibitions and instrument samples that take place in the different rooms of ExpoMeloneras.

The presentation of the program included the interventions of Samuel Henríquez, deputy mayor of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council; Elena Espino, Councilor for Culture of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council; David Batista, MAPFRE Guanarteme Foundation; Sebastián Gil and José Vicente Araña, director and artistic coordinator, respectively, of the Maspalomas International Trumpet Festival.

Elena Espino highlighted that the celebration of this festival "is a luxury for Maspalomas, since it has become one of the best in Europe." She highlighted that this year more than 150 students from various countries and conservatory teachers will participate. "From the Culture area we have been increasing the budget allocation to support this festival, which offers master classes and concerts. This year, in addition, there will be conferences, such as the one dedicated to female entrepreneurship in the world of metal instruments. Elena Espino highlighted the musical tribute to Frank Sinatra and the performance of the Gran Canaria Philharmonic Orchestra, at ExpoMeloneras, in addition to the concerts, on July 18 and 25, in the Tony Gallardo Municipal Park, aimed at older people and users of the occupational center and vulnerable groups. To celebrate 10 years of festival programming in Maspalomas, a photography exhibition has been organized at ExpoMeloneras.

Sebastián Gil stated that the celebration of the 15th anniversary is an important anniversary and highlighted the quality of the trumpeters of this edition, which has been held in Maspalomas for 10 years, with the presence of young people of 18 nationalities. He highlighted the participation of trumpet players from two universities in Colombia, who will offer a concert on July 20, Colombian Independence Day, in collaboration with the Colombian Consulate in the Canary Islands. For his part, José Vicente Araña explained that, this year, the festival begins, in an exceptional way, this Thursday the 14th, at the Ecumenical Center, with baroque music.

David Batista congratulated, from the MAPFRE Guanarteme Foundation, the organization of the festival on its 15th anniversary, "which we have been supporting since 2017, since it offers an important projection of the Island, both from the pedagogical and musical fields. Our participation "It is based on the commitment we have to the training of young people, for which we have awarded 6 scholarships, and in the social field, with concerts dedicated to the elderly and users of occupational centers."

To end. Samuel Henríquez stressed that we must "bet on culture since it generates economy and resources for the municipality."

This festival has become a benchmark on the agenda of all young trumpet students and professionals. The places to participate in the masterclasses are already sold out, both in the training and academic section, as well as in the orchestral repertoire competition, the Youth Festival and in the parallel activities, which have reached their full capacity.

Maspalomas will bring together six great artists and pedagogues of the instrument, such as Reinhold Friedrich (Germany), Marc Geujon (France), Jean Christophe Dobrzelewski (United States) and the Spanish performers Adán Delgado (soloist of the National Orchestra of Spain), Marcos García Vaquero (soloist of the Madrid Symphony Orchestra and head of the Teatro Real) and David Pastor (international Jazz soloist).

The organization of the Maspalomas International Trumpet Festival is carried out by its artistic director, Sebastián Gil, trumpet professor at the Canary Islands Superior Conservatory of Music, and the coordinator, José Vicente Araña, head of Studies at the Agaete Music School, who are outstanding musicians and renowned teachers and promoters of this instrument in the Canary Islands.

In this edition we must highlight the figure of the German virtuoso trumpeter, Reinhold Friedrich, considered one of the best performers and pedagogues of this instrument in this century. Rriedrich masters numerous aspects of classical music, in addition to performing with original baroque instruments and a wide contemporary repertoire.

This year more than 150 trumpet players from different countries have registered, highlighting the participation of two instrumentalists from Colombian universities (Universidad del Cauca and Universidad de Caldas). The musical level of participation is very high, with the assistance of soloists from several groups.

The Young Festival, in its eleventh edition, will offer activities for young trumpeters of elementary grade or those who are just starting out in the exciting world of the trumpet, such as the event that will take place, on July 20, at the Cultural Center of The Board.

The Maspalomas International Trumpet Festival will carry out important social work in favor of various groups with the aim of transforming their conditions of access to music. For this reason, the concert 'The music of your memory' has been organized to be held on the 18th and on July 25, at Tony Gallardo Park, to support mental and emotional health wellness programs in older people.
