The fishing neighborhood of Playa de Mogán is now ready to celebrate the Carmen Festival. The program of events, presented this morning by the mayor of Mogán, Onalia Bueno, and the Councilor for Celebrations, Víctor Gutiérrez, starts this Saturday with the mass and procession in honor of the patron saint of the sea and will continue next week with concerts, festivals , cultural, sports and leisure activities for the whole family.
Playa de Mogán thus picks up the baton from Arguineguín, where today marks two weeks since the Carmen celebrations began. In that town, the mayor pointed out, "we have verified the immense desire of the residents to meet again in the streets and share moments of happiness, laughter and emotion again." A desire that she has assured is also felt in Playa de Mogán, a neighborhood for which a varied program has been prepared "with the collaboration of the parish, the Fishermen's Guild, groups, and neighbors."
The cover of the event program features Sebastián Llovet 'Chanito', a well-known resident of Playa de Mogán who worked as a sailor all his life. “Chano is the palpable example of the neighborhood's devotion to the Virgen del Carmen. We all have the memory of Chanito accompanying the image every time he goes out in procession, with songs and cheers with a megaphone,” commented Bueno.
The mayor has made special mention of the absence of an event that has been part of the Fiestas del Carmen in Playa de Mogán for many years, the HiFi Scale Gala organized with the Déniz family, also known as 'Pocaropa'. “Precisely this year, with a difference of two months, two brothers from that family have died,” she noted, wanting to make a special mention of the aforementioned and thank her for her participation throughout this time. “We hope that in the future we can count on them again,” she said. Although the event as such will not take place, a video compilation of the best moments from previous editions will be shown on Thursday, July 28.
The presentation event was held in the Port of Mogán, with views of the traditional fishing boats and the presence of the media, and the accidental councilor of Culture, Consuelo Díaz, the councilor of Tourism, Alba Medina, and the councilor of Sports, Luis Becerra.
