After seven and a half weeks of theoretical and practical training, on July 15 the first of the two calls for the Basic Professional Diver course that the Mogán City Council has organized with financing from the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund and the Government of the Canary Islands concluded. within the Participatory Local Development Strategy of Gran Canaria. The ASUB Underwater Training School has taught this course with which the skills to carry out underwater work at a depth of 30 meters are obtained.

In total, 5 people have completed the training period of this first call, and not six as planned since one of these had to abandon the training for reasons beyond the control of the organization. However, the second call for the course has already started, in which another 9 people participate. The Councilor for Fisheries, Víctor Gutiérrez, has been happy with the reception of this course. “It has been very well received with all the places filled,” he said.

There are 14 people who have benefited free of charge from this training which, as the councilor has pointed out, “is a great opportunity to access the nautical-sports and fishing sector”, very present in the municipality of Mogán, which has one of the widest range of nautical activities in Gran Canaria and with two of the most important fishing guilds, Arguineguín and Playa de Mogán.

The course consists of 250 hours taught in an intensive mode, with 80 of the theoretical part being developed in the Social Services building and the remaining 170 in the pool of the Valle de Mogán Sports Complex and the sea. All this is completed with another 20 hours on first aid for professional divers.

When the participants in the second call also finish the training next September, the exams will take place, the final step to obtain the title.
