The Commonwealth of the Southeast advances towards its energy sovereignty with new photovoltaic plants

The facilities will avoid the emission of 187.000 kg of CO2 into the atmosphere and will mean significant savings in the next budgets

The two plants are made up of 1.150 240-watt panels, which will produce nearly 600.000 kW/h more per year

The Commonwealth of the Southeast continues to advance towards energy sovereignty with the installation of photovoltaic plants for self-consumption in the desalination plant, in the treatment plant and in the pumping stations managed by the entity in the Region and that will prevent the emission of 187.000 kg of dioxide into the atmosphere. of carbon per year.

The three municipalities that make up the Southeastern Commonwealth have invested close to 800.000 euros of their own funds in the complete project that corresponds to the installation of these plants, to meet one of the challenges proposed at the beginning of this mandate: continue betting on decarbonization of the southeastern region.

Not in vain, with the 1.150 340-watt panels installed in the desalination and treatment plants, in addition to the improvements introduced in the facilities of the Las Rosas Wastewater Pumping Station (EBAR), and which is located located at the Ingenio Drinking Water Pumping Station (EBAP), the Commonwealth will be capable of producing 596.000 KWh/year more per year.

“This is a very important milestone for the southeast of Gran Canaria, in regards to our commitment to clean energies within the framework of the energy transition of Gran Canaria and the Ecoisla project promoted by the Cabildo of Gran Canaria,” assured the president of the Southeastern Commonwealth and mayor of Santa Lucía, Francisco García.

This phase of the works, carried out by the winning company Aguas y Energía de Granada SL within a period of three months, had a budget of 415.141,53 euros.

The Commonwealth will now undertake a second phase, with the installation of other photovoltaic plants in other areas of the Region.

Francisco García, accompanied by the mayors of Agüimes and Ingenio, Óscar Hernández and Ana Hernández, respectively, valued the savings that these plants will mean in the entity's future budgets, since the facilities are completely self-consumption, that is, all the energy generated will be consumed by the Southeast Commonwealth's own facilities, which will not have the need to pour excess energy into the grid.

Renewable energies, especially wind and sun, are one of the pillars on which the activity of the Commonwealth of Municipalities of the Southeast of Gran Canaria is based. In that sense, the president of the entity announced that they will continue along the lines of continuing to install photovoltaic plants in those areas where possible, "to continue moving towards self-consumption and energy sovereignty."
