The municipal plenary session agreed to name the roundabout where Avenida de Gran Canaria meets Avenida de Bonn (in front of the 'Vital Suites, Residencia, Salud y Spa Hotel'), Rotonda Lorenzo Ortego Valenzuela.

The plenary session of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council unanimously approved today to celebrate the Maspalomas International Carnival next year 2023, between March 9 and 19.

As Mayor Conchi Narváez stated during the plenary session, the Maspalomas International Carnival is one of the oldest on the island of Gran Canaria, which has been celebrated uninterruptedly over time, until the arrival of the pandemic caused by the virus. COVID 19, which forced the 2020 Carnival to be suspended, and prevented the 2021 Carnival from being celebrated, due to health restrictions.

Although it could be celebrated in 2022, but in the month of June, the current health situation and the return to a new normality will allow it to be celebrated on the traditional dates, that is, in the months of February or March.

It was the mayor herself who initiated a round of consultations with the different social and economic actors of our municipality, reaching a unanimous consensus to move its celebration to the month of March.

“In this way, the tourism sector will be able to schedule the promotion of the Maspalomas International Carnival in the next tourist fairs well in advance. The educational community will also design its school calendar,” said the councilor.

Lorenzo Ortego names a roundabout

In another order of things, the municipal plenary session also agreed to name the roundabout where Avenida de Gran Canaria meets Avenida de Bonn (in front of the 'Vital Suites, Residencia, Salud y Spa Hotel'), Rotonda Lorenzo Ortego Valenzuela.

The finally approved proposal was presented by the Canarian Tourism Organization, Skal Club Internacional de Gran Canaria, a professional organization of tourism leaders. Lorenzo Ortego had become an ambassador for our island of Gran Canaria and, in particular, for the image of Maspalomas Costa Canaria.

"His sudden and unexpected death, a few months ago, of which he was director of the 'Vital Suites Hotel' complex caused a deep shock, not only among his family and friends, but also among his professional colleagues, as well as the members of this municipal corporation”, highlighted the first mayor during her intervention in the town halls.

“Today, his image and legacy will remain indelible just a few meters from the building that for years was his workplace,” Narváez pointed out.
