Elena Espino, Councilor for Culture and Historical Heritage of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council: "I want to highlight the return of in-person presence and the novelty of the workshops dedicated to children and young people"

Germán Santana, director of the Maspalomas Summer University: "for the first time, enrolled students were able to enjoy a discount of over 15% on different accommodations, in addition to reduced prices, with discounts of up to 50% on tuition "

More than 1.500 people participated in the XXX Summer University of Maspalomas, which was held from July 1 to 29 and which in this edition offered thirty activities, including courses, workshops, children's and youth activities, tastings, excursions from Tunte to Gáldar and the Camino de Santiago de Gran Canaria, a trip to La Palma, the Rotary International CAMP, the national day of the Social Council of the ULPGC and the International Tourism Congress organized by ITSA and the ULPGC, in addition to the international festivals of Trumpet, Canarias Jazz & Más and Maspalomas Costa Canaria Soul Festival.

The Councilor for Culture and Historical Heritage of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council, Elena Espino, has highlighted in this edition "the return of in-person presence and with it the return of the young people from the CAMP International organized by the Maspalomas Rotary Club, in addition to the workshops dedicated to children and young people, "so that the university is open to all ages." He also highlighted the aspect of innovation, in reference to the International Tourism Congress (ITSA), which has had the participation of 200 experts, teachers and researchers from different universities around the world, who have participated, by streaming and in person. The Maspalomas Summer University collaborated in the technical part and in the organization of two days to publicize the Cultural Heritage of the Canary Islands.

A novel activity was the trip to La Palma, "in two days the quota was filled and it has been a resounding success, because it has been a cultural trip taking advantage of a historical moment. In three intense days, guided visits to places and spaces of great cultural, landscape and archaeological interest, in addition to the volcano route".

Elena Espino stated that the Department will continue to promote informative activities, especially those that combine experiences, such as the excursion to Gáldar or night observation with the Looking at the Stars workshop, "since we have detected that "Citizens want to combine the lecture part with the experiential part."

Regarding the musical events, Elena Espino highlighted the resounding success of the International Trompera Festival, with the presence in the municipality of more than 150 students from different countries, in addition to teachers who come from the best conservatories in the world.

"Our desire is to continue growing. The Maspalomas Summer University has been around for 30 years and must celebrate another 30 years. It is evident that everything has been evolving, as has teaching and, therefore, we must always bet on Innovation. A Today, proposals are already arriving for the new edition and I can say that there will be a course dedicated to the emergency sector, which the Security Forces and Health professionals are demanding of us.

In this edition, the Dubbing Course and the Film Production Course were introduced, since "Gran Canaria is betting a lot on the audiovisual sector and there is a good pool that is interested in that field, which we must continue to bet on in future editions" .

For the councilor "the important thing is that the Maspalomas Summer University continues to grow in two directions: the informative part with the participation of experts and residents and the international part. We are always interested in leaving our borders, we cannot work alone, "We have to focus on going out and having a presence outside our borders."

Elena Espino congratulated the director of the Maspalomas Summer University, Germán Santana, "who has been totally involved in this project, from the first day. He has embarked on a project that he did not know much about, but his way of being and his professionalism ", have made this special edition a success. He is a very accessible person, very down-to-earth and that helps attract students."

For his part, the director of the Maspalomas Summer University, Germán Santana Pérez, gave a positive assessment of this edition, "which coincides with its 30th anniversary, highlighting the great variety of proposals in the courses and workshops, in addition to the influx of public and the good taste in their mouths with which, in general, they have left after enrolling and participating, which guarantees the continuity of their support and, therefore, of the Summer University itself.

In this sense, the success in the participation of more than one and a half thousand people stood out, not counting the public that will attend the concerts of the Canarias Jazz & Más Festival and the Maspalomas Costa Canaria Soul Festival and in the Pilancones Popular Race that changed its celebration date in the month of September, due to the high temperatures.

"The initial objectives of recovering presence and normality in the classrooms and obtaining a sufficient audience for the proposed courses and workshops have been met, which have had a clear increase in attendance, seeking new sources of financing and support from institutions and companies, fulfill our commitment to the Canarian Strategy for Equal Transition, combine Canarian talent with the presence of notable specialists in their fields, in the State and outside it, thus managing to combine Canary Islands with internationality, highlighting the figure of Leonardo Padura, Prize winner "Princess of Asturias of Letters".

Among the positive aspects, Germán Santana highlighted the dissemination of all the activities on the Social Networks of the Maspalomas Summer University, which were held in different venues, such as the Cultural centers of Maspalomas and El Tablero, in addition to the premiere of the Casa County Council of San Fernando de Maspalomas, "which has been a great success, since it is a manor house that meets the best conditions of quality and capacity for the development of the Rotarians' CAMP courses."

Germán Santana also wanted to highlight that, for the first time, enrolled students were able to enjoy a 15% discount in different accommodations in Maspalomas, in addition to reduced prices on most courses and workshops, with discounts of up to 50%. % for different groups. He also highlighted the collaboration of GLOBAL, which, for the first time, disseminates the image of the Summer University on the outside of a bus and the dissemination of a promotional video on more than 200 buses that run throughout the island.

For the first time, the Maspalomas Summer University has gone outside the Island, organizing a cultural trip to La Palma, "in which we were able to learn directly about the devastating effects of the recent Cumbre Vieja volcano. In addition, We took a walk through the culture and history of the island, with the support of specialized technicians from the Cabildo of La Palma and the town councils of Santa Cruz de La Palma and Los Llanos de Aridane. In this edition, the program had its 'buzz' of gold' with a lyrical recital, with the students of the soprano and professor Judith Pezoa.
