The Villa de Ingenio City Council and the representative of the majority association of the taxi sector in the municipality have signed an agreement this Thursday, for an amount of 9.535 euros, so that all vehicles in the fleet are equipped with a Positioning System Global (GPS) to improve public service in the municipality and at the airport, in addition to its security. This aid will cover the installation of 94 units of GPS systems, as well as the maintenance fee for said systems during the first six months. The signing of the agreement was attended by the accidental mayor, Elena Suárez, the Councilor for Mobility, Domingo González, and the president of the Association of Auto-Taxi Entrepreneurs of Ingenio, Juan Manuel González.
Elena Suárez explained that with the signing of this agreement “we commit to the taxi sector to improve its safety and operation, but we also do so with the citizens, who insistently demand from this public service the guarantee and quality it deserves.” .
Domingo González, for his part, stated that "it is about strengthening the public taxi service in the municipality and also at the airport, and that it will help optimize the management of the vehicle fleet." The Mobility councilor highlights that this subsidy "is added to others that the City Council has already given to face the losses caused by the health alert or the renewal of the corporate image with emblematic places in the municipality."
This new aid comes to collaborate with the taxi sector in the implementation of a technological tool that is mandatory to install based on the municipal ordinance, and whose use is aimed at providing the taxi driver with a tool that increases their safety by locating in case of emergencies, through a system that has a panic button that will be connected to the Local Police and 112, in addition to providing the administration with a tool that enables the execution of the inspection function to supervise compliance with mandatory shifts in the urban area, as well as the races and trips that take place in the airport area. After signing this agreement, taxi vehicles that provide their service in the municipality are obliged to install this GPS system within a period of one year. Once this period has expired, if they have not installed it, they will not be able to carry out their work either in the municipality or at the airport.
