The largest event of the Pino festival in this town in the municipality of Agüimes will be held on August 26 starting at 18:00 p.m. The festivities will continue until September 10 with sporting events, humor, folklore, summer cinema, festivals and concerts, among many other activities.
Playa de Arinaga is preparing to experience an intense, joyful and fun end of summer, with the celebration of the festivities in honor of the Virgen del Pino, between August 21 and September 10. The program of events, which is already being disseminated among the neighbors, includes sporting events, musical concerts, festivals, comedy and open-air summer cinema, among many other activities.
The largest event of the festivities will be 'La Vará del Pescao', the popular tribute to the seafaring roots of this town which, as usual, will be celebrated again on the last Friday of the month of August. On the 26th, starting at 18:00 p.m., the La Vará boat will arrive at the beach with its 1.000 kilos of fresh sardines that, to the warning sound of the bucios, will be distributed among the attendees to feed the improvised grills located at along Avenida de Los Pescadores. Neighbors and visitors will taste this simple delicacy between guitars and songs, to honor with their celebrations the memory of the men and women of the sea, inhabitants of Playa de Arinaga, who once sold their humble catches as a means to earn a living with which to maintain to their families.
The celebration will continue during the evening with festivals on the avenue and in the square, a prelude to the expected aquatic pyrotechnic show that will take place from 23:00 p.m. at the dock house. After two years of restrictions due to the pandemic, a massive Vará is expected. There is a great desire to enjoy the party again with no limits other than healthy fun and the obligation to respect this unique enclave on the coast of the municipality of Agüimes. For this to be the case, the Civil Guard, Local Police and Civil Protection, together with the City Council, have already prepared the security plan for the event for weeks.
In addition to La Vará, the Pino festivities will feature sporting activities such as the popular raid, which will be held on Sunday, August 21, or the swimming crossing, which will take place on Saturday, September 3. For the little ones there will be children's workshops, a ludo park and an amusement fair. For the older ones, dances at the Senior Center, on the pier and in the plaza. And for young people, an interesting Mareas Vivas Festival. It will be on Saturday, September 10 on Avenida de Los Pescadores, with musical performances morning, afternoon and night and a giant water slide installed on the beach in order to expand the fun.
