Apartment owners: residents in Maspalomas continue to gain quota

The residents of Las Palmas, mostly heirs of Franco officials who bought in the boom of the Eighties and who have apartments in the south of Gran Canaria competing unfairly with destiny, continue to increase their share of power on digital platforms such as Airbnb. If the average price per night for long-term stays, the most affordable destinations (with average prices below 30 euros per night), is taken as a reference, Maspalomas is among the most popular destinations.

In this way, while the hotel sector tries to get out of the morass of income due to the Covid19 crisis and the war in Ukraine, the apartment owners located from San Agustín to Maspalomas passing through Playa del Inglés, where they are unable to reach agreements to improve the offer of the south of the island, they have positioned the destination as if it were something urban in the profile of Madrid, which does not have a beach.

The chaos reaches such a point that six of the 20 most booked destinations are in the Canary Islands, placing Maspalomas in fourth place in Spain on Airbnb, that is, Arona, Las Palmas, Santa Cruz, Maspalomas, Puerto de la Cruz and Corralejo. The Las Palmas apartment owners with holiday homes in the south of Gran Canaria "are aware of the demand for this type of stays, which is why the region shows the highest proportion of houses prepared to accommodate long-term stays with more than 40% of the accommodations available for long-term booking," says Airbnb.
