The Renewable Energies of Marine Origin Working Group of AINE (Association of Naval and Oceanic Engineers of Spain) will hold the 12th Enermar 2022 Technical Conference, on November 10 and 11 in Gran Canaria, within the framework of the 13th Canagua International Fair & Energy, promoted by the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, through the Insular Energy Council, and organized by Infecar.
The marine renewable energy sector encompasses both offshore wind energy and those generated by waves, currents, tides and, to a lesser extent, others of still embryonic development, such as the thermal or saline gradient. Along these lines, the main objectives of the Technical Dissemination Conferences are to promote the role of naval and oceanic engineering in the field of marine renewable energies; disseminate the functions and capabilities of naval and oceanic engineers in institutions or companies related to renewable energies; and promote marine renewable energies to achieve the Sustainable Energy Objectives of the European Union.
The organization hopes to bring together a large group of visitors, related to all branches of engineering and industry in the field of marine sciences and technologies, with whom to interact and face the future challenges of the European Union. The objective of the meeting for the Marine Energy Working Group (Enermar) is to promote the contribution of naval and ocean engineering to the achievement of the Sustainable Energy Objectives of Spain and the European Union.
For his part, the technical coordinator of Economic Development, Energy Sovereignty, Climate and Knowledge of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Raúl García Brink, indicated that these meetings are “very important because they bring together a large group of professionals, businessmen, students, not only from the naval field, but also all branches of engineering and industry related to marine energy, which provides new knowledge to the sector in Gran Canaria and attracts talent to our island.”
Furthermore, he explained that “this energy field is booming and in the development phase, and there are already some examples on a European scale. We believe that before 2030 we will see the first floating offshore wind farms in the waters surrounding the island of Gran Canaria, because this type of installations will be key to achieving the climate neutrality that we have established.” Therefore, “we believe that these Enermar conferences are going to provide very significant added value.”
The extensive program prepared will include the possibility of visiting several Enermar devices that are being tested in Canary Islands waters through the Canary Islands Ocean Platform (PLOCAN). A unique opportunity that has been decisive for the selection of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria as the venue for the meeting for the third time.
