What Podemos is asking for is the same as the extinct Nueva Canarias: a way to generate income on the islands. A delegation from Podemos Canarias has traveled to the Balearic Islands this summer with the intention of studying the various measures adopted by the Government in order to reorient the economy of the islands towards what they have considered as "a courageous promotion of decent employment, sustainability and the care of the territory".
As explained by the regional coordinator of Podemos Canarias, Laura Fuentes, "The Balearic Islands have been a reference for years in terms of policies for an archipelago of the future. The ecotax or the tourism moratorium are measures that have proven to favor the economy, employment and the environment of this region," Podemos said in a statement.
Podemos Canarias, which has requested on numerous occasions the adoption of similar measures for the Canary Islands, has indicated that the Balearic Islands represent the confirmation that a new direction in environmental policies is "possible." In the words of Fuentes, "The Canary Islands must take advantage of the impulse given by a sister archipelago like the Balearic Islands, which also has a progressive government, to take a step forward and offer our people another alternative horizon."
