The V Mogán Mango and Avocado Fair exceeds all expectations

Maspalomas24h Sunday, September 04, 2022

After two years without being able to hold it due to the restrictions derived from the Covid-19 pandemic, the municipality of Mogán hosted this Sunday, September 4, the fifth edition of the Summer Mango and Avocado Fair, which included the participation of 20 farmers and 28 artisans and where 8.000 kilos of mangoes and 2.000 kilos of avocados were sold to the more than 10.000 attendees present, a new attendance record for the event.

The Plaza de las Gañanías in Playa de Mogán was once again, once again, the location chosen to host the long-awaited event, which started early this Sunday morning with massive attendance, exceeding all expectations, and which ended with all the fruits displayed by the farmers sold and also with great sales success among the artisans and satisfaction in the gastronomic area.

Attendees, both residents of Mogán and visitors from other municipalities and tourists, were able to purchase a multitude of varieties of avocado - such as the Verruga, exclusive to the southern municipality - as well as mango, among which the Tolbert, Mum, Osteen, Keith stood out. and Valencia Pride, in addition to other highly demanded products such as papayas, pitayas, prickly pears, figs, honey, jam, oil, bread, sweets or fruit wines.

There was no shortage of traditional craft stalls at the fair, with 28 artisans - a new record - from different corners of the island who sold toys, leather goods, works with goat horns or handmade cigars, among others; nor the gastronomic tasting area, with a wide and varied offer of dishes and preparations for all tastes that delighted the attendees. As in previous editions, the day was enlivened by a live performance by the El Mejunje party.

“After two years of hiatus there was some uncertainty, but it has been a satisfaction and a total success in attendance and sales, which shows that the event is now consolidated. This gives us more enthusiasm to try to improve in the next editions, in order to continue promoting the local product and continue putting the farmer in direct contact with the final consumer, one of the main objectives of the fair," said Ernesto Hernández, councilor of Rural Development, Public Works and Treasury.

The satisfaction was full among all the participants in the different areas of the fair - farmers, artisans and the gastronomy area -, exultant at an edition that surpassed the attendance records of previous events and with great sales success. During the day, the members of the municipal government group presented recognition to the Caja Siete entity for its continued collaboration with the organization of the fair.
