The Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), attached to the Department of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, has managed to certify the set of activities it carries out in the field of emergencies and out-of-hospital health emergencies in the ISO 9001 quality standard.
In this process, the certifier OCA Global has highlighted the high level of professionalism and experience of the SUC; efficiency in the performance of its activities; the immediacy in the provision of the service and its immediate digital operation, as well as the high level of control detail of the latter.
ISO 9001 is defined as the internationally recognized standard for Quality Management Systems (QMS) that already has more than 1 million certificates issued in more than 178 countries.
The main objective of this standard is to establish a framework and a set of principles and procedures that ensure a logical approach to the management of the organization. This task is carried out in order to offer an effective and efficient service that satisfies all the Canaries and tourists who visit us and the interested parties who, in one way or another, participate in the management process.
Specifically, the Canary Emergency Service has achieved ISO 9001 certification in the following areas: emergency and out-of-hospital emergency care; medical consulting; telecare and telemedicine services; Non-Urgent Health Transportation (NUTS) and Scheduled and deferred transportation; management of land health transport between centers in the Autonomous Community and management of air health transport between hospitals in the Canary Islands and the peninsula, both on behalf of the Canary Islands Health Service (SCS).
SEMES Quality Certification Project
In this line of improvement, the SUC is also participating in the Quality Certification Project sponsored by the Spanish Society of Emergency Medicine (SEMES) in which most of the out-of-hospital emergency services in the Spanish State come together.
This project, which will conclude in 2023, aims to unify and certify the action procedures of all participating out-of-hospital emergency services, always respecting the logical regional differences of each of them. To achieve this, monthly meetings are being held in which action procedures in different areas - care, quality, training, occupational risk prevention and operation of the coordinating centers - are analyzed.
