The work of the Villa de Ingenio caladoras arrives this weekend on the catwalk of the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Madrid, the great showcase of Spanish fashion and an important platform for promotion and dissemination in the world, hand in hand of the creations of the Gran Canaria designer Aurelia Gil.
Aurelia Gil, a member of the Moda Cálida program promoted by the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, is the second Canarian brand to participate in this important event with international projection, after the participation of TRAStornados 19 years ago. Gil will present his '365' collection to the public, with sustainability and Canarian heritage as the protagonists and as a tribute to the brand's history, and in which Canarian women artisans who work with openwork or banana fiber have collaborated.
A representation of the Ingenio Caladoras Association, together with the Councilor for Crafts and Commerce of the Villa de Ingenio City Council, Catalina Sánchez, have been invited to participate in the event to support the Canarian designer.
Catalina Sánchez explains that this action is part of the lines of work marked by cooperation with the Department of Industry, Commerce and Crafts of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, “which began in 2019 with the counselor Minerva Alonso, with the aim of giving "know the importance of the municipality's depth, promote its commercialization, and thereby contribute to ensuring that this important artisan legacy does not disappear." The councilor appreciates the work and involvement of the counselor Minerva Alonso and the designer Aurelia Gil with the Villa de Ingenio Caladoras Association, “a very necessary collaboration that makes the calado enter the field of high-end fashion, and "It also comes at a time when this practice needed it more than ever."
For her part, Aurelia Gil underlines the importance “of this step that I have taken with the Ingenio jigsaws,” and adds that “it is a relationship that is here to stay.”
The designer explained that '365' is a tribute to her career and that it is a revised and updated version of Aurelia Gil, “my way of explaining to the world the concept of Canaridad and a tribute to the craftsmanship of this archipelago, with the intention of raise it to the level of current fashion", and stated that she has been working since the beginning of the year with women in the field of crafts "to take the step from tradition to innovation, and who are masters of crochet, footwear, openwork or of banana fiber.”
Regarding the collection that he is going to present at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Madrid, he stated that “it does not distinguish between summer and winter, but is suitable for 365 days a year and, from now on, I will launch a single collection a year under this premise. ”, stressed Gil, who this year celebrates 20 years as a fashion professional.
