Tropical Storm Hermine dumped an accumulated rainfall of 117 liters per square meter in the municipality of Mogán this weekend and caused a total of 60 incidents recorded by the Mogán Local Police and the municipality's Civil Protection Volunteer Group, dealing with mostly from landslides and small floods. Municipal workers are working to return normality to the affected areas as soon as possible.
The mayor of Mogán, Onalia Bueno, the councilor for Street Cleaning, Traffic and Transport, Víctor Gutiérrez, and the councilor for Public Works, Ernesto Hernández, have made a visit today to the points of the municipality most affected by the passage by Hermine.
Among these, the Lomo Quiebre roundabout, in Playa de Mogán, where the intense rain caused the roads to flood and washed away a significant amount of earth. Playa del Cura has also been affected, with the ravine overflowing onto the road, causing the water to end up in the roundabout area that connects the upper part of the urbanization with the beach. The authorities also traveled to Puerto Rico, specifically to Agua La Perra, where the slope diverted the water towards the access roundabout to the Marina, taking with it a large amount of mud.
“Fortunately, with all the operations carried out by the Mogán City Council, little by little we are returning to normal,” reported the mayor, who requests that “we continue to be patient because the rains have been quite intense.” “We have work ahead of us this week to leave traffic areas such as sidewalks, roads and accesses in optimal conditions, especially,” he said, thanking the work of all municipal staff, from Roads and Works, Street Cleaning, Parks and Gardens. , Lighting, Extraordinary Social Employment Plan, Local Police and Group of Civil Protection Volunteers.
Among the most common incidents this weekend is the presence of stones on the road and minor flooding in homes. The fall of a tree has also been recorded in the Los Laureles park in Puerto Rico.
“Fortunately, Mogán has not suffered serious damage, which is normal for a rainy season that we are not used to” and for which “our urban planning has never been prepared,” Bueno pointed out, rejoicing because “there is no need to regret any human misfortune.” ”.
The other side of the rains leaves fuller dams and wells and running ravines in the municipality. “It is a blessing that has arrived at the beginning of autumn,” said the mayor. Now in Mogán the sun is already returning which, she assures, "will make working easier because it will dry the mud and we will be able to clean the remains of mud with water."
