Santa Lucía de Tirajana hosts the Clementina House for victims of gender violence

The Minister of Equality of the Gran Canaria Cabildo, Sara Ramírez, and the mayor of Santa Lucía de Tirajana, Francisco García, visit the new reception resource managed by the Red Cross and financed by the island institution

It will have the capacity to accommodate 11 victims of gender violence and will become part of the protection network against violence in Gran Canaria

 

The Minister of Equality, Diversity and Transparency of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Sara Ramírez, visited the 'Clementina' shelter home for women and minors victims of gender violence. A new resource that opens this year in the municipality of Santa Lucía de Tirajana, which was attended together with the mayor of the council Francisco García and the councilor responsible for the area of ​​this municipality Minerva Pérez.

 

To launch this new service, the municipal council has collaborated, as Ramírez commented: “The good relations we maintain with all the city councils on the island are key in the management of the violence network in Gran Canaria. Therefore, to launch this new shelter, we have had the support and advice of the municipal equality team at all times.” To which he adds: “Without a doubt, one of the great values ​​that Gran Canaria has to fight against sexist violence is the union between all the local entities of the island, beyond political colors. As well as the good work of the social entities that are part of the Network. Thanks to this we can affirm that care for women and minors who are victims of this violence is assured."

 

For their part, the mayor of Santa Lucía de Tirajana, Francisco García and the councilor of the area Minerva Pérez, have shown the city council's willingness to continue collaborating with both the Cabildo and the Red Cross, highlighting that: “The care service for victims of gender violence of the municipality will continue to collaborate and enrich the gender violence network of the island with its experience, ensuring care for the women of the municipality, their boys and girls, and in coordination with the Casa Clementina for reception. Likewise, he has made an appeal inviting us to "have a high mind and avoid exposing the victims for partisan purposes."

 

This new resource will be managed by the Red Cross social entity that already provides other services of the Gran Canaria Gender Violence Network and to which this one is now added. Clementina, which receives its name in honor of the book 'Arturo and Clementina', one of the co-educational stories by the author Adela Turín, which deals with sexist violence, will have a total of one social worker who will act as management, 3 social educators and 3 educational assistants.

 

It is expected that women, along with their sons and daughters, will begin to enter as soon as possible into this new resource that will open its doors in the municipality of Santa Lucía de Tirajana. This service will be part of the new agreement between the Canarian Institute of Equality and the Cabildo of Gran Canaria that is in the process of being drawn up.
